New Transformers movie in 2 years

September 27, 2007 - After weeks of "will he or won't he return?" buzz, Michael Bay will reportedly reprise his directing duties for Paramount and DreamWorks' Transformers 2, which is targeting a tentative June 26, 2009 release.

According to Variety, "Bay has not yet inked a deal to helm the follow-up but is in the final stages of negotiation. With Bay's involvement, [the first film's star, Shia] LaBeouf is expected to return as well."

Also, even if DreamWorks topper Steven Spielberg, who exec produced Transformers, leaves the studio as industry pundits suggest he might, the trade claims he'll remain involved with the sequel.

The studios are said to want Transformers 2 in production before the expected industry strikes happen mid-next year even if, as Variety suggests, "they have to finish after it." The June 26, 2009 release date isn't set in stone because of that.

Ah, good, well now I know one thing I won't be doing in Summer 2009. :)

Thanks for the heads up. ;)

They've picked an exact day 2 years in the future?

Coming Summer 2009:

Transformers 2: We're Sorry.
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

Man you guys are harsh.  :)   I'm not ashamed to say that I did a happy dance when I read this. And I know I'm not alone.

Hopefully there will be robots in this one.

Pak-Man

And fighting and explosions. Those are a must. If they get those elements in, we got ourselves a popcorn movie in '09. :^)

Oh yeah, it's a growing trend. Seems a bit dicey to me, you're warning your competitors of when you're releasing your "good" stuff.

I don't know.  Michael Bay seemed perfectly content showing people a hell of a lot more than the robots in the first one.  Bay isn't much for creativity so I'm thinking we'll get more of the same in the sequel.

Prepare yourself for pain.

Sorry, there were no robots in the first movie. There were just CGI car commercials that temporarily stopped advertising their products for a few seconds at a time here and there.

The Dinobots are rumored to be included in this one. So even when they aren't in robot mode, we'll see giant mechanical dinosaurs blowing crap up. I think that's pretty awesome.

In that case, they will have a visible Mattel logo on the dinosaurs, or they will destroy a whole bunch of cars at once, but all of the GM model ones will be miraculously unharmed by the rampant destruction. ;)

If Unicron's not in this one, then count me out.
