If you guys keep arguing they might take the logically consistent move of making one riffer $2.99, two riffers $3.99, and three riffers $4.99. We get one extra riffer as a free bonus at the moment and I'd like to keep it that way.

I think you might be giving these posts a bit too much credit.  I'm sure the prices are being decided by better means than someone seeing this thread and going, "By jove, they've got it!  We never thought of increasing the price in that way before...brilliant!  Jack the prices everyone, a random forum member suggested a new pricing scheme, and it's like nothing we've ever seen before!!!!"

Bicker away, I say.  It's why the forum is here.

I think it's important to put this in perspective; this extra dollar thing is being argued about in a Rifftrax fan forum.  Everyone reading this thread probably paid $40 for a bootleg VHS MST3K from Uzbekistan at some point in their life, so it's a moot point.

Second, I know most of you ranters are typing this from work and probably earned that extra dollar in the amount of time it took you to type your angry rant about the extra dollar.

The market will prove whether it was a good or bad idea, so there is no sense in arguing it until Rifftrax goes public, we all buy shares, and then have the power to chew out the board of directors.

Personally, I'm just glad they are doing a movie I already own so I don't have to wait two weeks for it to come in the mail; plus three Riffers really is the ideal number.
In my post-apocalyptic Utopia, all laws will be in the form of easily remembered rhymes and chants.

I'm sure I'm partially at fault here, my reckless use of the phrase 'be upfront'* in the other thread poured gasoline on the fire.

I have no problem with the increased cost, heck I want to encourage as many 3 person riffs as possible.

My apologies.

*I DO think a separate announcement stating the reason for the price increase would have helped.  Sorry, I'll stop now.  :-)

I think he was talking to Jarney..

Yeah Compound, not sure why you thought I was replying to you.

Ah. Nevermind then.

The "It's $1 more!" argument still doesn't do much for me... If you've bought every rifftrax thus far (this coming one included, plan 9 and night of excluded) you've spent $97.67....  Then if you don't have a netflix or blockbuster online account (or rewards account, etc) and you buy each at an average of $10 that's up to $976.70...  though honestly if you're doing that, you're kind of an idiot..... But more realistically, if you do a pay per movie with in-store rentals at an average of $4.50 you're still up to $439.52.

I'm not saying that they should be free or that the prices are too high, just saying that I still see it as overreacting to put down anyone who may download the occasional track or thinks of raising prices as a nuisance because "it's so cheap!"  You can also compare the prices to whatever you want, but that doesn't do anything for me either, like gasoline is still the cheapest liquid you can buy in gallons.

Well, that sounds perfectly logi--HEY!  That's what I do!  (Although, admittedly, I don't have all of the RiffTrax.)

By the way, if we're going to argue, I'm going to butt in and YouTube-drop a Python sketch, if nobody else minds.

It just seemed fitting.

And you guys know we wouldn't do anything we didn't think was fair.

The market will show the results though. If we see that no one wants to buy it at that price, then maybe we'll reconsider. But we still think for riffs that have all three riffers, the dollar increase is barely noticeable and beyond fair.

HELL! I'll Buy It at This Price with No Questions Asked!! ;D ;D

I think you guys have been undercharging, to be honest, so I don't have ANY problem with a price increase.

I wasn't complaining, I was just pointing out that if you say "$1.00 extra 'cause it's got a third riffer" you're making a rod for your own back. But I appreciate your problem. If you lower the price of 'single riffer' episodes by 15%, will you get more than 15% additional sales? Maybe, but probably not, considering how cheap the Rifftrax are to start with.

I'm sure there are other ways to increase your yields, though, so that price-insensitive suckers like me are still happy to pay the full whack while others on a budget can get their rifftrax as well.  Like (for example) Revenge of the Sith is $3.99 but for anyone who pre-pays between now and September 25 you give a 20% discount.  Or you can buy coupons for 10 Rifftrax get an 11th Rifftrax free. Someone in another thread suggested bundling sets of Rifftrax, which is a good idea.

I also think you could also charge more for recent blockbusters... 300 is about double the price of Bourne Identity at Amazon, and yet you don't charge any extra for the 300 Rifftrax.

Anyway, I want you guys to stay in business because I want to be able to buy new Rifftrax for a long time to come!

Cheers
Steve

Up until the cost of the riffs is as much as the cost of the movie, which for me would be a little over $6 most of the time, I'm not really going to hesitate over which ones I buy. Certainly anything up to $5 is such a marginal sum that I'm not even really going to think about it.

One thing that seems to be missing at least in this thread, is the capitalism behind it, if they are making more money, there is a higher incentive to make more riffs and release faster.

In my opinion this WAY outweighs 1-4 dollars extra.   I can't get these riffs fast enough (assuming writing quality stays high).

IF I knew for a fact that I would get 2 a week, I would spring for 5.99-7.99 per riff/release just to make it so profitable that they want to release a bunch and increase the frequency of the releases.  Of course this means more writers and so on, you can deal with the same riffers or pull in additional ones, I think Bridget (Bridgette?  Sorry for possibly butchering your wives name Mike), was AWESOME as was Mary Jo.  The long part of the process as far as I understand it is the writing portion, if Mike/Kevin/Bill/Mary Jo/etc do less of the initial writing but more tweaking and performance, they could get these out the door faster.

Of course this increases costs (which are covered by the increased prices), but if the profit to Legend/Rifftrax increases as well, it just makes good business sense for them to do more riffs and release at a faster rate.

There are literally hundreds of movies ripe for riffing, and probably 20-100 per year additional coming out, no real effective 'end' of movies they can work on.

My ultimate goal is to have gazillions of these.
