Wow...this thread is really getting deep...it's like some of those unanswerable mysteries that humans have been struggling to comprehend for many, many millenia (try saying those last three words 5 times fast).

Y'know, like...what happens when an unstoppable force (like a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick) meets an immovable object (like Bruce Campbell's chin)?  And what happens to sour cream when it expires?  Does it turn good?  If you mix pasta and antipasto together, will they explode?

But I digress.  Here's a riddle that is actually related to the last post:

Suppose you find yourself in the middle of the jungle, running from the local drug syndicate, and you come to a fork in the road, one of which leads to freedom and the other of which leads to certain death.  You are already peeing your pants and trembling in terror when two spirits appear.

"We are spirits!" say the spirits.

"Um...I probably could have figured that out on my own," you reply.

"Silence, cowardly mortal!  We have been sent by the Flying Spaghetti Monster to guide you down this path.  You may ask us two questions - one for each of us.  But beware, mortal - for one of us speaks only the truth...and the other speaks only lies!" they say in unison.

"Okay...hey, wait a minute!" you interject. "If that's true, then how come you were able to say it in unison?  I mean, wouldn't the lying one not be able to say it if it were true?"

"Um...well...uh...erf............I, uh..."  The spirits scratch their heads and mumble aloud.

"You know what?  I think I'll just get this over with before you disappear in an Adams-esque puff of logic," you say, as the spirits breathe a sigh of relief.  "Hey, um...the one on the right.  I think I'll ask your question first..."

What question should you ask?
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

What question should you ask?

Is the path on the right the safe one?  They should answer "yes" and "no".

Is the path on the left the safe one?  They should answer "no" and "yes".

Then to decide which of the two I should listen to I would ask a question where the answer is obvious.  In my case it would be "Do I have a full head of hair?"  Whoever answers "No" is the one whose advice I follow.  :)

BZZZZZZZZZT!  Wrong!  Their advice is only given through the answers to their questions, and you only get one question per advisor - you can't ask two questions directed at both of them.  Try again.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

I'll give you a hint: you only REALLY need to ask one of them.

Well, for real, they must BOTH be liars because they said "one of us speaks only the truth...and the other speaks only lies!" in unison.

So I guess I'd ask which path is safe and take the one they didn't say, since they must both be lying sobs.

Pak-Man

Figured it out! :^)

You ask if the other guy would tell you to go right.
If yes, go left. If no, go right.

If it's yes, and you're talking to the liar, you shouldn't go right because the truth teller wouldn't tell you to.
If it's yes and you're talking to the truth teller, you shouldn't go right because the liar would tell you to.
If it's no and you're talking to the liar, you should go right because the truth teller would tell you to.
If it's no and you're talking to the truth teller, the liar would tell you not to go, so you should.

I've heard the riddle before, but this was the first time I've ever been able to properly recall the answer. :^)

Yes - that is the correct answer (or it's a member of the correct, um...genus of answers - I'm not too good with answer taxonomy).  Also acceptable would be to ask the guides which path the other guide would say was the right one, and then go to the path toward which neither of them will point.

I would die probably :-P Either way I guess I would have a 50/50 chance haha.

As for the original subject (since I was too lazy to read 8 pages of comments), I say that it is ok to riff a good movie because they don't need the riffing to still be good but the riffs can make them entertaining as well.
