I liked all three of the movies you just mentioned, but I agree that non of them are "great". As for Serenity, its something of a cult hit and so it has much more respect than a normal hit film ... the thing is neither you or I seem to understand the praise that Serenity gets. (damn, can't believe me and Principal finally agree on something :) )
heh heh... just don't call my friend a Dickhead.

I really liked Advent Children... perhaps because of my bias towards Final Fantasy VII to begin with and of course the kick-ass musical score. I never saw the Returner or District B13... possible to rent them do you think?

Minnesota

definitely possible. If you have a netflix account you can buy District B13 for only 6 dollars. But most respectable rental places should have these two Movie Gallery (owned by Hollywood Video) is where I found them.

Then I'll look for them. Thanks Minnesota.

I would say you have to really like Firefly or the movie is going to really suck to watch.

I'll second that.

BathTub

I can totally understand not liking the film, but not knowing that it was a spin off from a TV series just seems odd to me, especially for someone on the internets.

when I rented Serenity (as a new release) I didn't realize it was based off of a show either ... found that out much later

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Primer are all recent good Sci-Fi.

2nd Eternal Sunshine (excellent film)... what is this Primer movie? ... actually tell me nothing I will see based on your recommendation alone 8)

got around to watching Primer. Very well done film. I liked the approach and the mystery of the first half (the invention is revealed through the characters, bringing the viewer along for the ride). Can't really find anything bad to say about the movie ... maybe one negative is that I don't feel the need to give it repeated viewing as much of the mystery is gone by the time the credits roll gave it 5 stars on Netflix ... but if you want to be exact I probably rounded up from about 4.6ish

also, i've been meaning to ask this in this sci-fi thread... what did you guys think of Deja Vu as a sci-fi film?

bettertomorrowamy

I thought you guys were kidding that you hadn't seen Firefly.  I don't know why you would go see Serenity without having seen Firefly.  That's why the movie didn't do as well in the theaters.  You almost had to already know what it was about before you want to see it.
