As always the game starts at 1pm California forum time.  This was posted on the forum at 8:44, so figure out when that is in your time zone.

TEH RULEZ

Standard 20 RiffTrax 20 Questions Rules:

-Yes or no questions only

-First valid question posted after a mod answers the last question will be the next one answere

-You can't have your question answered twice in a row

-Vague or confusing questions result in a five question ban and a forfeit of the question.  We decide what's vague.

Special rule update:

It's a straight up 20 Questions game, except that If you can feed your question into a search engine, you lose the question..

For example:

Does the title excluding, blah blah blah, come before "N" in the dictionary?

Answer:  Loss of question, NEXT!

Was the movie made before 1985?

Answer:  Loss of question, NEXT!

Does the movie contain any dinosaurs?

Answer:  Yes/No

Does this movie have a memorable catch phrase?

Answer:  Yes/No

Does this sounds vague and confusing?  Well then let the people who understand what we're getting at ask the questions.  Not sure about your question?  Maybe you shouldn't ask it.

SECONDARY RULE UPDATE:  Guess the wrong movie title and you can't ask another question.  So make it count!  (Note:  Applies only to the "official" answered question.

Do any of the stars of the movie enjoy things, or -- alternately -- stuff?

Not vague in the least!   ;)

Not vague in the least!   Wink

Fine.  Do they enjoy things that begin before the letter "N"?

Dim of the Yard

So, it's like 1pm over on the East Coast right now... are we going to get any special rules for this game, or is it just a straight-forward "Is this movie Red Dawn" sort of thing?

I think we still have to stay tuned for the rules.

All questions must be in the form of an impenetrable logic puzzle.

Ex:

Each of the inhabitants of a basement screening room either always tell the truth, or always lies.
You ask Kevin, "Can you truthfully say that the film was released after 2000?"
The answer is unintelligible.  Mike immediately says, "That was 'yes.' And I always tell the truth."
Bill says, "They're both lying. When's lunch?"

I was thinking 20 Questions in general would be more amusing if they just banned any questions that are specifically aimed at narrowing a PowerSearch on IMDB.  They'd have to give the genre and decade up front so we'd have at least a fighting chance, but the questions themselves would have to be about the content of the movie -- e.g., contains an explosive car crash, isn't set in an Ethiopian restaurant, stars at least one transvestite -- instead of the incidental crap like its rating and title.

Steve-O mentioned that you should maybe give us the genre and/or decade up front so we have a fighting chance.  I agree with this.  Whadda ya think, Conor?

Does this movie contain HOT XXX PIX OF BRITNEY SPEARS PARIS HILTON IN ACTION?

???

Genre can still be determined somewhat by asking about things like, "Are there spaceships?" or "Do people fight with swords?"

Nah...Let's see how you fare without.  I think it will work out if people ask the right questions.

Yeah, or for action: Does it have a car chase?

I don't think there's a search option for "Is it based on a book?" That should be fair game.

For PG-13 or R: Ask about content that earns those ratings.

Does the movie contain CGI? might get a year range or something.

If you really want indirect craftiness, there isn't a search option for "Was it made during the administration of George W. Bush?" Although something tells me that might not fly...
