well since people are admitting to "avoiding" Schindler's List I'll admit two movies I'm avoiding as well...

Crash... looks terrible, I'm tempted to see it, but not overtly
Passion of the Christ... the whole torture porn aspect doesn't do it for me ;)

^^^ anyone want to recommend these, otherwise I'm content to avoiding them

Both movies called Crash suck.  The first is based on a book that also sucks.

Minnesota

I've actually seen the NC-17 Crash, thought it was okay, although I generally hate Spader. The one that I'm avoiding is the Sandra Bullock Crash

I feel the same way about Passion of the Christ as Schindler's List.  Do I really need to know how much Jesus suffered during his crucifixion?
Isn't the real point why he suffered?  Overrated!

I think the two go hand in hand.  Gibson shows us how much Jesus had to go through to sacrifice himself for us.  If we just saw some light S&M whipping, then it's far less effective.   :)

But the fact is he didn't go through that level and the actual horrors of crucifixion aren't really shown. Instead we have the SM fantasies of an crazy German nun in their place. Go read The Dolorous Passion of the Christ it give de Sade a run for his money.

It may prove problematic for people who claim that the movie is as faithful as the Bible, but whether Jesus went through that, for me, is besides the point.  I'm just speaking as to why that scene is so brutal, in that it carries the "message" of the movie more effectively.  Purely from a movie stand point, rather than a religious one.

But I'm not talking biblically even, I speaking hstorically. We know what happened with somebody due to be crucified. And the message it carries is "Jesus had solid brass balls , look at the pain he went through"

He should be shown experiencing the same fate as those either side of him since that is what the message is supposed to be.

See, I still don't agree.  Historical fact or biblical truth seem irrelevant for this movie.  When I saw the movie, I felt I was watching something akin to Christian propaganda, rather than an attempt at accuracy.  When the message of the movie is "Jesus went through a shit-load of bother to save your souls", then things like truth are not the primary focus.  I don't know why I'm even debating the point, it's not like I even liked the movie :)

Besides, I think we all know how crucifiction really goes:

For some reason, I am reminded of the people who hate Lord of the Rings (the books) simply because so many people of a certain type (nerds) like them. So some nerds started thinking they could be better than other nerds by hating things simply because other people didn't. Taking potshots at Python just because they wear dresses and use fake woman-y voices? That's a little one dimensional... crossdressing in British comedy is no different than fart jokes in American comedy - it's just a sort of low-level background humour that fills in the spaces between the actual comedy. But then again, I suppose "disdain" is the new "like"... sort of how hot is cool, and bad is good. ;)

For the record I'm not hating Monty Python 'just to be a rebel' I genuinely don't like that style of humor... for the most part I keep quiet about hating it... I realize I'm in the minority - obviously many people find that brand of humor funny... so again no offense.

As for 'fart jokes' I hate those as well, I'm not trying give off a 'holier than thou' vibe though... lord knows many of my favorite comedies are considered immature. I hate fart jokes probably more so than men in dresses talking like women, but both are cringe inducing to me.

For example, 300 is the only Rifftrax  that has received below a ten (and I've rated them all, except Bourne Identity which is currently on backorder) ... I thought the fart jokes were too excessive. In the words of futurama, "I give you the worst grade imaginable, an A minus minus"

I have to agree with Minnesota, at least regarding what's not funny. Flatulence and Cross Dressing are not as funny as everyone seems to think they are.

And I do understand how someone can not like Monty Python. They have their own way of making jokes that can try people's patience.
