Ya know, when I think I've got it bad...

As many of you know, I've been dealing with neuropathy for the past few years. It's pretty unpleasant, and makes me prone to accidents (four weeks ago, I took a fall at Walmart that made my head bleed; yay for firsts, I guess). Anyway, it often turns out that conditions like mine are hereditary; I just found out a few days ago that my niece has MS. Twenty-four years old; so grotesquely unfair. When you're chronically ill, it's easy to become self-absorbed; I wish this wasn't how I'm shaken out of feeling sorry for myself. I'm just glad I don't have much contact with her mom (my sister); if I was in arm's reach when she started prattling on about how it's "God's plan," I'm fairly certain I would punch her in the throat.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

Lost a tooth on Thursday.  Now I have an ugly hole in my mouth.

It was a baby tooth that stuck around for a couple extra decades and finally came out.

Tooth Fairy better have some fucking sacajaweas for you.
Say hi to Dwayne Johnson. Hope he has cash for you, if he offers you a huge ugly belt, don't take it.

Sorry its Larry the Cable Guy now.  If you see him, run the other way

I'm sorry both for your situation and that of your niece. :(  And I agree with your reaction to your sister's comment... that is the most inconsiderate - selfish - response to someone else's difficulties.  ['selfish', or narcissistic, in that it is based solely on her own beliefs and ignores the effects of both the experience and the statement on the other person, your niece (and, by extension, you).]
To dispel some of the misconceptions about head injuries you have developed from watching movies and TV, I wrote this: ...Some Information on Head Injury Effects

The diner I had breakfast at this morning must have cooked fish for someone right before they cooked my bacon. Because it had a nasty fishy aftertaste to it.  (I really hate fish.)

1000 pages is only because people complain about great food like fish bacon.

People, if you sign up for the 30 day trial Prime membership and you know you are only going to use it for the 30 days. Please turn the auto-renew to Off when you sign up.

I get 50 indignant callers a day accusing us of charging them for something they didn't buy. You did buy it. You agreed to it, but you had eyes only for the free 2 day shipping you were getting and just blindly pushed accept terms until it said check out complete. Stop it. Read the terms.  :grr:

Thrifty

I did that once.  Not with Amazon Prime but with another service.  I am usually pretty diligent about canceling those sorts of things.  Turned out I had somehow signed up for two services, cancelled the second service, but not the first.

By the way, it can easily be refunded. What I have a hard time with are the confrontational openings where people just assume we are making fraudulent charges. get tired of arguments that go like

"You charged me $79 and I didn't order anything!"
"Okay, sorry to hear you are upset. If you look at your order 30 days ago, you opted to get free 2 day shipping by signing up for our Prime membership."
"I DIN'T SIGN UP FER NUTHIN'!"

*shows proof*

"Oh! I just wanted the free shipping. I didn't want to pay no money. I want a refund."
"No problem."

They should just keep it, it's great!  Even if it is mainly a brand loyalty scheme, I've fallen for it hook line and sinker, completely happy with my two day shipping for $80 a year.  Love it. And usually I hate store memberships.

I'd stay away from the ER. Most insurance plans won't cover much of ER visits, and if it's not an emergency, get in on Monday. Just stay off it and ice it.

Reminds me, I have to call my insurance on Monday to figure out what the hell the deal is with this check they sent me. For some reason they took care of all but $250 of my ER visit without me having to do anything, but for some reason they have to send me a check for the ambulance ride, and then I have to forward that on to the fire department. But the check they sent me is for $140 out of $245, and I have to cover the rest. But the fire department's bill for the ambulance was for $711 (to take me 6 blocks by the way). So now I'm just confused.
