QuoteVariety posted an extensive article about the future of Universal Studios, now that the writers strike is over. Apparently, the studio will launch several high-profile projects, which include several franchises. One of those franchises is the "Bourne" series, which both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass have agreed to return for.

The article states: "Shmuger and Linde landed Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon for a fourth "Bourne" movie, even though the director and star seemed ready to wrap it up after three pics."

It has been recently reported that Damon has changed his mind about returning for a fourth installment, even though he seemed very confident during the 2007 Cannes interview. "I'm definitely done with that. I think we've ridden that horse as far as we can. The character lives on in the books and if someone else wanted to play it it, I guess they could."

According to the following numbers, Universal would be crazy to turn down this lucrative and well received franchise. "Bourne Identity" earned $214 million theatrically on a $60 million budget. "Bourne Supremacy" earned $288 million theatrically, on a $75 million budget. And "Bourne Ultimatum" made over $442 million theatrically on a $110 million.

Hey, maybe we could start a new The Bourne Insert Random Noun Here thread game!
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Doctor Who?

I hope no one takes this the wrong way because i liked the first movie, but now that Bond has good back to basics with Casino Royal I just don't see the need for this francise.

Maybe it shallow of me but I like Bond more then I like Borne and the last two Borne movies had to much shaky cam for me.

If they ditch the shaky cam and find something new for Borne to do i would go,but the last two movie were pretty much him breaking into offices and talking to people on cellphone.

I know most people will think i am crazy but i just enjoy bond films more.

Well it was completely set up for this, so I am sure no one is surprised.

See being British I had the image of Bourne slouching off to the post office to cash his unemployment cheque and then shuffling over to the job centre to see if there were any covert agent positions announced.

Well, it would be an easy movie to make.  Steal another character name from the books that the movie has nothing to do with.  Film it with such a shaky camera that their won't be any reason for location change or even props.  Finish off with trite dialogue about how bad we are in the US and that war is wrong despite the rising body count in the film and you have a blockbuster of epic proportions.

It was going to happen eventually but I didn't think it would be this fast.
I'm all for another Bourne.  Shaky cam or not these are solid films.

QuoteEmpire magazine caught up with Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass and got the chance to ask them whether a fourth "Bourne" movie was going to happen.

"We're all for doing a fourth movie but it means coming up with a good story," Damon told Empire. "There are a lot of things that would have to happen before we would sign up for it."

Greengrass followed that with: "I think the truth is that it's a very well loved franchise, but we're in the process of trying to work out what kind of film you could make. If there is one, what would it be? How it could go? Without any pressure; without any commitment to it, but everybody loved the franchise. We love it, but none of us would want to go again unless we're sure there's a worthwhile film and that could take some time. You don't want to do that when you feel like you've got to make it and none of us need to, so that's where we are."

Judging by their comments, a fourth "Bourne" movie is still far from hitting theaters, but at least the main star and director seem to be interested. Stay tuned.

OMG, I completely agree with everythng here...... do you have a newsletter to which I may subscribe?

The new back to basics Bond movies make Bourne not needed.   Casino Royale kicked major butt.

Sorry my printer is always jamming.

Maybe it's the fact that my first Bond film was DR.No or maybe it's that fact that in the movies i was never quite sure who Borne was fighting or why but Casino Royal is my favorite movie of the decade.

The first Borne movie filled a gap for me while the Bond francise was making movies like Die another Day and it still holds up pretty well but i don't think you needed more them one movie.  Also i like to pretend that the last two never happened and Borne and what's-her-name are living happily on that beach. Any way the Borne books are even better then any of the movies good or bad.

I get it cuz they say, "I've been made redundant." in Britain, while here they say "I've been shit canned."
