I can't imagine a better person to fill Don Adams shoe phone than Steve Carrell. (Colbert would be up there, but his alter ego is too recognizable these days.) I've been following this project pretty closely, and I haven't found much to grumble about yet, amazingly. Anne Hathaway's considerably younger than Carrell, but she can do the effortless professionalism 99 needs. And the Rock is always funny, even in that horrible trailer for The Game Plan.

I REALLY hope Brooks gets involved....

I heard that Mel Brooks and Buck Henry were getting some sort of producer credits (besides created by) but I don't think either has had anything to do with the script.

I will lose a lot of respect for Mel Brooks if he gets in the remakes business any further than a Producers remake... a producer credit on this film would be saying that he has lost all creative talent...

too harsh?

Isn't the soon-to-open on Broadway "Young Frankenstein" a musical now?  If so, we can expect a movie of that in a few years.   Even the Pythons will probably eventually okay a movie version of "Spamalot" eventually.   Remakes are just an inevitability these days.

man i have been waiting for this for over a year and perfect casting by the way, great trailer.  wooot

Cibernético II

Looks pretty neat.

Going by his real name is all part of Rock's plan of gradually severing all ties from the wrestling business and becoming exclusively a movie star

Considering the guy he throws the handset at, I hope there's no nude male wrestling in this movie.

I see I'm not the only one that noticed that Azamat from the Borat movie was in there
I really do like pie.

mrbasehart

Looks decent, for a teaser.  I like Carell, Hathaway and Johnson, though I never really followed the tv show.

Really?  I thought it was the guy who was Jack Nicholson's underling in Departed.  I didn't get a good look.

Still that "Element of surprise" scene was the one that won me over because it felt like classic Smart.

No, I don't think it's all that harsh.  I thought making the Producers into a musical and then remaking his own musical of his own movie into another movie... was a little much.  But maybe he's just a good businessman, I don't know.

The (real) Producers is easily one of my favorite comedies. The musical was hilarious, and the music was decent. (Of course, I hate most Broadway musicals, so what do I know?) But the new musical movie was just plain dull. How responsible for that is Mel? I dunno, but when was the last time he contributed to a genuinely funny movie? His style of humor just won't fly these days. I don't want Steve Carrel to imitate Don Adams, and I don't want the script to imitate Mel and Buck.

Whoa whoa whoa....  NO love for the Producers Y2K(plus five?) movie??

I actually really liked it -- though nobody, absolutely NOBODY can replace Gene Wilder.... And I'm talkingto you TOO mr. Depp.....

The most praise I can levy on the new Producers movie is that I didn't hate Will Ferrell as Franz Liebkind. Which is no small feat. I was prepared to hate him. I wanted to hate him. But he was perfect. Everything else, not so perfect.

When I saw the show on Broadway - well, 42nd St, actually, but you know what I mean... - it was after Broderick and Lane had left, which was just as well. Bialystock and Bloom are Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder to me, and having such recognizable faces taking their place would bring too much baggage.

googergieger

yeah, indeed.

and don't see this movie....
Stand by for action!

sigh did you have a reason for saying that or do you just like making inane empty comments.
