Many thanks for this guide, I have successfully made 6-7 Rifftrax DVD's using it.

I do have a question though, just recently I bought Daredevil and when using DVD Decrypter to rip the audio/video it errors out at about 40-43% into the rip.  I figured maybe the disc was scratched or something, even though there didn't appear to be any scratches.  So I decided to go get Star Wars Episode 1, a new DVD and tried it and the same thing is now happenning.  Is there another program I can try to use to rip these ... or could this be my DVD-R drive?  I was able to rip LOTR between those two just to make sure it was working.

I finally did it this morning (Making a rifftrax DVD) with Star trek V.

Problem is The Star Trek audio is Really low, but the Trax is spot on.

Not bad for a first try

For your next rifftrax, try checking amplify and raising it about 10 db when your in the px3 convert program. That should help. I know for a fact that you will have to do it on daredevil.

It depends on how you edit your audio. If you normalize it, you will more than likely have to amplify the quiet speaking parts of the movie. If you do not normalize, you will have to turn down all the loud parts of the movie in Audacity.

Usually, I don't check normalize, because then I can hear the speaking dialogue, and it is a lot easier to go and turn down the couple action scenes than it is to turn up all the talking scenes. This is just for me and audacity, however. I don't like Goldwave's voiceover plugin because it turns down the audio when the guys are riffing, so that it sounds more like a dvd commentary instead of a MST3K episode.

What movie are you planning on doing?

Use Aften, not BeSweet or ffmpeg, for AC3 conversion!

ffmpeg and BeSweet don't create 100% compliant AC3 files, which causes problems in Pioneer DVD players.

This gave me lots of problems and now I need to go back and re-create all of my Rifftrax DVDs.

TheRealJon

Hm, I tried using the program in the rifftrax lite directions and it only rips about a 2 gig file from my Episode 1 DVD.

THis is really frustrating.  Both Daredevil and Episode 1 get stuck in DVD decrypter between 40-45% every time.  Tried restarting, cleaning off the dvd, nothing seems to work.  Has anyone experienced this problem?  Should I get a new DVD drive?

SecretAgentSuperDragon

Well first off, are you using DVD Decrypter or Rejig. Use rejig and let me know what happens.

TheRealJon

I'll retry using Rejig tonight.  But last time I used it I got about a 2 gig output file which seemed really small compared to the usual 4-5 gig file I get, the audio AC3 file seemed normal but the video seemed small.  But anyways, I'll try it out tonight and hope for the best.

TheRealJon

Just confirmed, rejig rips half the movie then moves on so yeah I get a half file from it.

I've done Fifth Element and Star Wars now with the guide, only using GoldWave instead of Audacity (it doesn't like me).  I thought things were fine, with the exception that my chapter breaks aren't working.  I've copied over the file needed in Rejig, but it seems like they don't work when I play the DVD since I can't skip chapters.  I didn't see anyone else mentioning a problem with it.  Is there something I could be missing?

SecretAgentSuperDragon

Yeah. Rejih's chaptering scheme is a little weird, I just discovered. Go ahead and rip the chapter info(for ifoedit) w/ DVD Decrypter and you should be good. Make sure it is checked NTSC or PAL depending on your region when you reauthor in rejig, then it should work. This has only happened a couple times for me, but if it seems to be a real problem, I'll put a note of it on the front page.

In response to TheRealJon, It is possible that it is your dvd drive. If it's stopping at 40%, either your disc is scratched or your drive is messed up. If you got a surplus store nearby, you can usually pick up a decent dvd burner for $10-$15.

TheRealJon

Yeah, its a fairly old drive so I wouldn't be surprised.  I'll just pick up a new one and I should be back on track.  Anyways thanks for the guide, works sonderful when my DVD drive wants to work :)

Blueguy

Thanks, I got the chapters working, but the subtitles didn't work.  I'm going to try again, but I suspect I'll get the same result.  Do you have a sure-fire way of getting them working?

I tried a guide on here, but that was a bit of a long, drawn-out process and too much manual work and I think there was a mistake in it anyway.
I went off the write-up someone linked on doom9.org and followed that very closely.  I got the .sup files but playing the movie it isn't working still.
