When is the relase date for the flick? I'm a huge fan of the book, so I can't wait to see this!!

The story will have to have some sort of evil wild thing or something that wants to de-throne the kid.....

It's slated for October 2008.

the long undertow

The first 70 minutes will be a backstory to better explain why Max desires to leave his mundane existence.  The last 20 will be what is in the book.

I'll admit that you hit my "Hollywood cynic" funnybone with that one...

Wasn't this supposed to be animated?

You might be thinking of the other thread where someone posted the old unfinished test clip of a CGI background, hand drawn characters version.

this is gonna be good.  i cant wait all my childhood books are becoming movies; chronicles of narnia, where the wild things are.

personally im waiting on if you give a mouse a cookie the movie.

the long undertow

From now on, anyone who writes a children's book will be required to turn in a screenplay version at the time of publishing on the off chance it does well and someone wants to make a movie out of it somewhere down the road.

If You Give A Mouse A Cookie and If You Give A Moose A Muffin are being written into a single dynamic story where the seemingly unrelated titular characters' lives intersect in a way that leaves them forever changed.

if you give a mouse a cookie: the deadening.

I guess I don't understand why you think this is automatically a bad idea.

I agree with this.  The picture looks beautiful, I love the costume adaption.

At the same time, it's sad but I think eventually the "OSCAR for BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY" will be completely obsolete in a few years.  No one seems to want to do original material anymore.

A friend who attended a Sendak lecture in NYC said that flying children in his books are an ode to his most terrifying moment as a child.  Apparently he saw a kid get hit by a car.  But from his vantage point in an alley way,  all he saw was the boy flying through the air ; no impact or landing.  :(

Sharktopus

The Sharktopus is cautiously optimistic, and awaits film adaptations of Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, and Grover in The Monster At The End Of This Book.

Have Mercer Meyer's Little Critter books ever been adapted?

Not that I'm aware of but they seem to be perfect. I'd love toi see a tv series about those.

Grover in The Monster At The End Of This Book.

WOO!  If no one films "George and Martha: Split Pea Soup", then I'll just have to train some hippos myself and do it.  Live action.  Live soup. Summer 2009.

That Grover book could be twisted a little into a deep psychological thriller. The monster at the end of the movie.... it was ME! NOOOOOOOO!!!!

I'd love to see a film adaptation of Everyone Poops.

"Now kids, this is called an elephant....."

I thought for sure the "Everybody Poops" title would have already been hijacked by the German porn industry... but alas...
