I'm surprised no one else has spotted this yet, but the Satellite News informed me that Mike had an article in Sunday's New York Times magazine about his chronic headache. You can read it here. I would've liked to have seen it in print. Anybody get the Sunday Times?

Seriously, how does he manage to come off as being so nice all the time? I've met the man after he flew into our city on the crappiest, most dangerous day of last winter, then drove in and gave a 2 hour talk to a bunch of college fanboys, then had to sign autographs for 45 minutes, and all the time he had a headache?!

Mike, I have a theory: Your head is punishing you for being amiable. Try being surly, arrogant, and bitter for a few days, and see if your headache doesn't clear up.

Yeah that mirrored my thoughts as well, he hides it really well. It would be so easy to become an asshole.

Very interesting read, thanks for the find Sharktopus.

I have to say, this part totally made me laugh out loud:

QuoteNow, if 1,000 people were given a dose of ringworm medication, I would expect one or two of them to exclaim, "Hey, I find I no longer dislike the music of Rascal Flatts as much as I used to!" That would not lead me to conclude, however, that ringworm medication cures an aversion to the music of Rascal Flatts.

Two words:  Gonstead Chiropractic.

Chiropractic can help with your headaches. My mother has had headaches and migraines ever since she was rear-ended by a slumbering motorist many years ago. She has had significant progress with Chiropractic treatment, and it doesn't require a dependence on pain medication. Pharmaceuticals only mask the pain, and the other procedures described in the article do just the same.

But don't think that Chiropractic is just for those who've had serious injuries. Even small things can add up to spinal mis-alignment, which is almost undoubtedly the cause of your headaches.

Give Gonstead a try. It's safe, effective, and can rid you of your annoying headaches. I'm a Gonstead patient. It truly works, I can tell you.

I was going to publish this in our blog yesterday but wanted to get Mike's approval first.

We've gotten several emails from helpful folks with different treatments, from acupuncture to weed. Quite interesting, actually.

I've got the same thing, although I've only had it for about 15 months and not 20 years.  I'm trying massage therapy right now for my headaches.  Maybe that can be something to try?  (I'm also getting the Chiropractic work done; I've been getting it since I've gotten the headache.  Rather like it, actually.)

But, yeah, I can pretty much sympathize with Mike as far as the medication goes.  I'm been on mainly stuff that is supposed to lessen/get rid of headaches, but the last medicine they had me on actually made my headache worse.  That was kind of weird.  I'm glad to be off the stuff.

If Mike got a little box of crystals and dried herbs in the mail, we'd know it was Randy.

It sounds like a case of cranial swelling. Too much intelligence packed into that meaty head of his.

My orders: Watch back-to-back episodes of Deal Or No Deal, The O'Reilly Factor, Wifeswap, The Simple Life, Laguna Beach, Sunset Tan, and to top it off, 6 straight hours of CMT.

That should, in theory, lower your intelligence just enough to the point where your brain swells down, and intra-cranial pressure shall no longer persist.  ;)

Or kill you. In which case you won't be feeling anything anyway.

Are you kidding? His job was, and to an extent still is, to watch terrible movies, over and over again, and come up with enough jokes to keep people's interest. If stupidity could actaully shrink a person's head, Joel, Josh, Trace, Kevin, MIke, Mar Jo, Bridget, and everyone involved with joke writing in MST3K's heads would have caved in years ago.
