Worst comedies you've ever seen?

I like Jack Black.  I thought he was a riot in Orange County.

Man, Napoleon Dynamite was a supremely irritating movie.  I equate the experience of watching Napoleon Dynamite to the experience of sitting in a comedy club and watching a comic bomb, to the increasing discomfort of everyone in the audience.

How about dramas that are billed as comedies?  Those irritate me, because I'd probably really like them if I wasn't anticipating a laugh-fest.  You know, like Little Miss Sunshine or Lost In Translation.  They might have funny moments in them, but they're DRAMAS, people.

"Tomcats" with Jerry O'Connell, Shannon Elizabeth and Jake Busey.

I've enjoyed these actors in past roles of theirs, so you'd think that I'd enjoy a movie with all three of them. Well, you'd think wrong. It's horrible & tremendously unfunny. When I watched it, I smirked at 1 scene in 90 minutes. That's not even a full laugh. Just a "okay, that idea is kind of amusing" smirk. Tomcats has "Freddy Got Fingered" levels of badnes. Don't believe me? Take a look at this review from the Austin Chronicle:

"Tomcats is a godawful hell-wreck of a film, utterly meritless, clueless, and sloppy all the way down the line. As far as grossout comedies go, this one takes the proverbial cake, slathers it with a heaping helping of frat-boy misogyny, and then has the cojones to be equal parts stultifyingly dull and wearyingly unfunny. It is a comic nadir, the stanky green crust caking the bottom of the well of titters."

Roper (who I normally ignore, except when he agrees with me) declared this film to be the worst film of 2001.

Natureboy

Worst comedy?  Oh, that's easy!  Night Patrol!!!  This is the film that has the Unknown comic playing a cop.

Nunyerbiz

Night Patrol? Isn't that the one where Henry Winkler was desperately trying to translate his sitcom success into a movie career?

That was "Night Shift", IIRC.

Yep. That was it. (Written by Babaloo Mandel too. Bonus!)

J-Proof

I'm not sure if "Dolemite" is billed as a comedy, but that was damn near unbearable to me. The guy who showed it to me treated it as if it were comedy... So that's why I nominate "Dolemite" as the worst comedy ever.

Aw, some folks don't like Napoleon Dynamite. That fills me with sadness, for it was an almost religious experience for me. I laughed until it hurt. But that's only because I could relate to it a lot. My school had a guy just like Napoleon. Even the weirdos hated him.

Fatal Instincts

I thought you were referring to this Fatal Instinct: http://imdb.com/title/tt0106873/

I was prepared to track you down and kill you!

I feel the same way.   My brother is exactly like him, even has the fro and the weird open mouth breathing thing.
Nicolas Cage is .... FU MANCHU!!

There are a lot of bad comedies I've seen over the years, but for now, I'd probably have to go with Date Movie, though that one might be a bit too obvious. Either that or They Call Me Macho Woman.

Quote from: BobEvil on June 10, 2007, 10:04:01 AMI really hated "The 40 Year Old Virgin".

That was a funny movie.

Quote from: TripeHoundRedux on June 10, 2007, 11:34:50 AMOK I might be alone here but I've never found Caddyshack especially amusing.

Caddyshack isn't nearly as funny as it's been made out to be, but it's still pretty damn funny. The sequel, though, now that's bad. Mike even mentions it alongside Howard the Duck in terms of quality on his Plan 9 commentary.

Give me Jim Gaffigan any day over Dane Cook.  (hot pockets!)

Dracula Dead And Loving It by Mel Brooks was also painful to watch.    I'm sure I could think of more eventually.

Yes!  the Gaff is great, I like his comedy a lot.  Has anyone seen "Love Stinks" by Brooks?  That was a real bomb in my book - it was so unfunny I couldn't finish it.

Actually Brooks' movie is called LIFE Stinks. Love Stinks has French Stewart (the voice of Bob in God, the Devil & Bob) as a guy who's being terrorized by his psycho ex-girlfriend. Can't vouch for the quality of this film on either side, since the last time I saw it, I was NINE, but LIFE Stinks, the one that Mel Brooks WAS involved with, is a funny movie. In fact, I can't say that Mel Brooks has ever made a single unfunny movie in his career. His work has always been funny.

Quote from: BBQ Platypus on June 11, 2007, 08:50:47 AMI have a feeling that some people might disagree with me here, but Car Wash is easily the worst "comedy" I've ever seen.

No, I agree with you there, that one is god-awful.

I was talking about Life Stinks.  It was terrible.  I disagree about Brooks, he definitely has made some unfunny movies in his day.  He gets this god-like comedy director status from people who quote his movies as frequently as a Python film.

I know you were. Just trying to point out your mistake.

Anyhoo...yeah, it's just that every time I turn on any Mel Brooks film, I'm always laughing. It's the same with the Pythons, all of their films are funny (Python TV episodes are often hit or miss, but the films are ALWAYS funny).

I think the two worst things that either the Pythons or Brooks were involved with were both kids' movies - Look Who's Talking Too (Brooks as the voice of a toilet...really) and Valient (John Cleese, along with a cast of many famous British actors and comedians...all embarrasing themselves in a horribly unfunny CGI bird movie).

No, this is the one with...wait for it..............Linda Blair as the acting lead.  And it is not the actor that plays the Unknown Comic that was in it...it was the charactor, paper bag and all patroling the streets as a cop.

BTW  Caddyshack 2 is horrible, you guys are right about that.

You know it might be that; it not living up to the hype destroys it for me. I just find other films with just about everyone in that film waaaay funnier.

Personally, I like Rodney Dangerfield's stand-up better than his movies. Except maybe Easy Money.

I like Back to School but yes he was a better stand up.
