Submit Lists for LoC #132 Top Road Movies / Journey Films

I said that the deadline would be 10 days after I get my 8th list, and as of today I have five lists in, which is much faster than I expected. I am sticking to my plan of not calculating the final list unless I get 8 lists, because this topic has resulted in such a wide range of films, that except for a couple of movies that are on everyone's list, almost everything so far is unique to someone's list, which would mean a lot of unbreakable ties ( without resorting to the previous IMDb tiebreaking method ). Also because I know this is a topic that everyone here can contribute a list to, even if they think they have not seen that many road films. I finalized and locked in my own list a couple of weeks ago, and have since remembered dozens of road films I have seen and forgotten about. Third, I am in no hurry to actually complete this LoC since no one has volunteered to host their own topic yet. So may as well drag this one out rather than have the LoC inactive for another nine months.

So here is how this will go. Based on how fast I have received five lists, it is possible the next three would arrive this weekend, which would mean if you are interested in participating then you better get your list ready. On the other hand, the fifth list could end up being the last for a long time, and this won't be completed until 2024. So if there are those of you who want to see a LoC on this topic, but could not be bothered to submit your own list, then the only way to move this forward would be to submit a list.

Very simple. Think of your DIDVDS ( Desert Island DVDs) that you would bring with you if you ever  were to spend the rest of your life trapped on an island. Now think of the plot in each of those DVDs. Does a bulk of he plot involve the main characters traveling from one destination to another, and having adventures along the way? Then those would be road movies, or a variation of the genre.  I know everyone is forgetting of all the movies in this genre they have seen, because out of the five lists I have received so far, one major franchise which everyone here has seen and loved is not yet represented. And it is almost entirely about characters on a journey.

There is plenty of time for anyone to send in a revised list, should they think of any movies they would rather have in their top 25. My list is locked down only because as a host, I don't want to get influenced by lists being submitted.  However, I am not ruling out unlocking my list if I remember a road movie I really love, such as something that would have been an easy top three.   Fortunately, none of the forgotten films I have remembered so far would have been in my top 25.

Still holding at five lists. There are at least two members I have not heard from who contributed to the last couple of LoC lists and appear to still be active on this board. I could send out a bunch of PMs promoting this LoC, but at this point I will only do that if I don't reach 8 lists by summer. Or earlier than that if I do get 8 lists and have a set deadline, just to make sure anyone who does want to contribute does not miss out.  But at this point I am only interested in keeping the LoC active as opposed to getting a topic completed quickly. And based on the diversity of movies submitted so far, three more lists will definitely help.  Currently only three films have made more than one list. And one movie that is on everyone's list, will certainly be at #1, and was the film I suspected would be at #1 when I picked this topic.

I's the first day of Summer. While I have received an impressive 5 lists within the first week of this topic being posted, it is not my 8 list goal. More than enough films on those lists to compile a top 50, but so much diversion that there would be a lot of ties. Mostly ties.  So it is getting close to when I have to cut my losses and use the lists I have. That means wrapping this LoC up and compiling the master list. That means anyone out there who wanted to participate and was dilly dallying with their list has begun to run out of time. As promised, I will do a final push by submitting PMs to the members still active on this forum asking for participation. And if I get no requests for a delay, then the lists I have get tabulated by the end of the month with a goal for the LoC to be started by July 4th.

As it seems as if no one else is sending in lists, or has said they are still working on a list, I shall begin calculating what I currently have. This is the very last day for any lurkers out there thinking of participating to do anything. At the moment I am checking the lists I have for any mistakes. At first glance about six movies on more than one list. The rest unbreakable ties, which means using scores on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb will once again apply.
