I don't think I've ever seen a more idiotic article talking about romanitc relationships.  First off, it reads like an ad for 'Knocked Up,' which looks mildly amusing.  Second, it tries to convince everybody that the submissive, wussy types, you know, the guys you see meekly sitting in dark corners trying to work up the courage to go get rejected by a girl because he's a total wussbag with absolutely ZERO confidence in himself, is actually the kind of guy girls are starting to go for (the article calls them 'beta-males), because, you know, it happens in movies, and movies are, like, totally real.  Give me a break.  Anybody with eyes knows that submissive, wussy types have major problems attracting girls, because they do it all wrong, while the confident, agrressive alphas can get about 30+ phone numbers in a single evening without even trying.

Final hint:  Attraction is not a choice (bravo if you know who I'm quoting), and while every girl says she wants a 'nice' guy, she'll never be attracted to somebody who isn't confident in himself and doesn't take charge of the situation, especially if he treats her like she's his one and only shot at love, no matter how 'nice' he is.

Kidding. But seriously, Newsweek is crap.

Pretty much what the comments on fark.com, where I found the article, said.

Someone's either "wussy" and just been dumped or a macho guy who's been dumped for a "wussy" guy

You can be a nice guy with manners and class and still be confident.  That's what I love about my guy.

Right, but 'nice' does not mean 'beta'  or 'wussy.'  What the article is showing is not that this next generation of Hollywood guys is 'nice,' but instead that they're submissive, which anybody who sits back and looks at the scene from the sidelines knows submissiveness is a real turn-off.  It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.  Guys who do everything the girl asks for to keep her from running off usually find that that will cause her to run off.  On a side note:

I bet it is.  (seriously, no sarcasm in that, as that's a good way to sum up how the REALLY good catches, like me, are)

QuoteSomeone's either "wussy" and just been dumped or a macho guy who's been dumped for a "wussy" guy

Or, I could just be a guy who 'gets it.'  I used to be the wuss, because culture and upbringing led me to believe that that was what was socially acceptable.  Then, one day, I figured out that being my normal, cocky, confident self was going to get me FAR more girls than being a wuss, while my manners and kindness would mean they'd stick around, and I've never turned back.

Tyrant

Frankly, I find the article a bit too polarizing and quite insulting to the male gender in general. Realistically, most guys are a mix of Alpha and Beta type behaviors and the ones that aren't usually have some abnormal psychosis thing going on. Were all of humanity that two-dimensional.

Eh, it's still not as insulting and inaccurate as any given MSN article
