Hello. New to the forum, but have been obsessively watching Rifftrax/MST3K for a number of years now. I love Joel's laconic vibe, but if forced to choose, I'd pick the Mike-Kevin-Bill combo.

I have heard riffers/MSTs repeat phrases several times that I suspect refer to movie quotes. But I have been unable to track the sources down.

So, does anyone know the origin of:

1) The sort of whiny, "Hello? Hello?" comments, in which the word is sometimes pronounced with a slight "y" sound, i.e. "Hyello?"
2) "Antony! Antony!"

I was able to figure out "serpentine"!

Thanks for any help you can give.

Wow, Eegah, those sure sound like the references to me.

I compliment you on your (truly, deeply) obscure knowledge of such things. I had imagined they came from famous (or at least well known) movies or TV shows, not obscure NatLampoon bits or commercials!

Thanks.

I have to admit that I had to do a bit of googling for the Flash Bazbo one. It was worth it, though!

Omg thank you for the Flash Bazbo for so many reasons.  Not the least of which is this story which I have been dying to tell. I work from home. Alone a lot. Talk to the dogs and the computer. When I'm coding and I get no response to a call or query I do Kevin's Hello-heloo? ALL THE TIME. And when I get an error message especially when I was expecting it (I'm in the middle of typing to fix it) I Always do Mike's Shut up, Iris. So I suppose my debugger' s name is Iris.
As for Bills line I repeat endlessly it doesn't come from a riff. It comes from one of the sketchfests with Paul F. Tompkins when they teased him for not liking babies (I'm not a fan either, Paul.) Bill said that for his birthday, "We got you a human child." That is my go to line whenever someone talks about gifts, or surprises, or really it works in all kinds of conversations.

Maybe that's why I'm alone a lot.

Flash bazbo national lampoon radio?  wow that would've continued to sail over my head for the rest of my life.  i think that's great, tracing riff lines to their origin lines and pop culture references.  sometimes i just know when to laugh and it's cool how surprising that reference is.  everyone loves national lampoon, but the mst3k bit is an innovator during the theatrical movie especially.  "Hyello?  Mr. Magic Plane person?"
I would have thought that the impersonation was just a funny voice.  thanks!  i recently watched that movie about the making of national lampoon with will forte...  i think it's great tho, how MST3k can make themselves just funnier by using their funny voices...  they have a lot of ways to define their genre.
