What movie does Bill Corbett reference at the beginning?

It's in the concentration camp scene at the beginning of the movie, not long after these lines:

Bill: "Why don't we just yuk it up over the school bus crash in the sweet hereafter, Mike."

Mike: "No, no, I'm pretty sure this is a comic book film..."

Then after Mike says: "Now he's going to turn into an X-Person and, uh, he's going to kill all the Nazis, watch, I'm sure that's going to happen!" Bill goes, "Yeah sure Mike, why don't you just pop in [Showa?] and we can really have some laughs".

I tried searching that phonetically, but didn't have any luck. This stuff goes over my head all the time, Mike and the gang know more about movies than I will ever forget. :)

I dunno either.

Showa released a lot of Japanese monster movies, but that does not make sense in context
Showa was a period of time in Hirohito's rule in Japan, but that is not a movie you can "pop in".

Face it, he might be too smart for us.

It's probably a reference to a movie about the Holocaust or something like that. We are talking concentration camps here.

Douglin

"Shoah is a documentary film by Claude Lanzmann based primarily upon the Holocaust and the German extermination camps in WWII Nazi occupied Poland."

and

"Shoah or Ha Shoah (literally denoting a "catastrophic upheaval") is the Hebrew term for the Holocaust."

Awesome, thanks guys! I would have never found that.

And also, this:

refers to The Sweet Hereafter, which was an actual movie, another reference I missed.

Bob

I knew the bus crash was from the movie, and I DID know about the Shoah testimonies that were filmed by holocaust survivers, but i never put 2 and 2 together.

I feel like such a dullard now.
