...

Kinda' interesting...

QuoteThey might not have taken any Oscars for best movie, but Dirty Dancing and the first three Star Wars films are all-time winners in the viewings league.

A survey found that male fans of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi have seen them an average of 20 times. And women who confessed to liking Dirty Dancing tend to have watched it 15 times.

The 1987 movie starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey was turned into a West End musical last year - and broke box office records.

The survey involving viewers of the Sky Movies Sci-fi & Horror channel revealed that some films are a hit with both sexes - including Star Wars, Jaws, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Terminator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Wow. Interesting. Of the top ten films that we women like, I like exactly four -- counting each trilogy as one, as they do -- enough to watch more than once (#2, 4, 6, and 7). Not counting watching films + RiffTrax as actual viewings, that is.  :)

Wonder why they counted some trilogies as one film and others separately.

I wouldn't give this much weight, Sky Movies is not that great of a source, especially if it's just from the few weeks old 'Sci-fi & Horror channel'

No Casablanca?
NO DOCTOR STRANGLOVE?
NO COSMOS WITH CARL SAGAN?
NO GODZILLA?!

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner!"  Not even Godzilla, apparently.

I couldn't count the number of times I've seen the Star Wars movies, all 6 of em.  Indeed I watched EpII last night because I'd purchased the Rifftrax for it.  However, I CAN tell you how many times I've watched the LOTR trilogy, purely because they're so bum-numbingly long that you only watch them very infrequently, and again the last time was because it was my first Rifftrax download.

Good for Bladerunner, too often forgotten in these things.

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

Fuzzy Necromancer

I'm a little curious about how the survey was conducted and what the sample size was.

Because Commando isn't in the male top ten, the headline really should go like this:

Top 10 Most Watched Films By "Men"

Where exactly can I meet these chicks that love Jaws?

The fact that 'Aliens' beats 'Alien' is possibly a sign that evolution is moving backwards.

Ah, get over it. More killer aliens= more people watching it.

... Except.... yeah, Aliens vs Predator probably had more aiens than any of the individual films from either series together, didn't it?
Nevermind.

Just Some Guy

Considering the survey was from a satellite science fiction movie channel I think that we can't really say that the findings are particularly sound.

That said, I do find the original cut of Aliens to be a superior movie to Alien though I like both.  Good luck finding one person out of ten under the age of forty who has seen Casablanca, Dr. Strangelove, or the original Godzilla (or Gojira even).  And Cosmos was a PBS television show, not a movie, and again I doubt you'll find very many people who have seen it.
