Just as a thought about the Extremely Unlikely lists...

After looking at this and seeing Moonbeast getting the nod (which thrills me to no end), I went to do a quick look up of Susan Hart.  A post in that same "likelihood thread" from the MST boards talks about it in more detail.  Granted, the post is two years old, but one of the things that makes it interesting is how it not only explains why the Susan Hart movies have been such a bear (until recently), it does give some hope (however slight) to the MST versions.  It apparently is not a matter necessarily of hatred against MST and all that they did, but more that the legal settlement that gave her those movies had a tangled web of rights troubles that made it difficult to license them out in the first place.  It doesn't explain all the troubles (she is still very overbearing on the rights), but it does appear she has been far more willing to negotiate rights more so than in the past...

You know, I like copyright and understand its benefits and such, but sometimes the law is very thorny on all this stuff and makes this kind of thing way harder to deal with.  It's one thing to make sure the right people are getting paid for their work and that people aren't simply ripping them off, but at the same time it makes a lot of transactions way more trouble than they should.  Let's not even start on music clearances...oy...
One Man Band Riffs.  18 riffs, over 600 served, since 2009.

Used the Shout Turkey Day 50% off sale to scoop up the 4 random sets I was missing, pre-order the next one, and upgrade my MST3K Movie from DVD to Blu!

What 50% off sale?  It didn't apply when I ordered the upcoming (Mar 2017) set, vol. XXXVIII, and my total was $61.96.  ???

Never mind.  I finally found more info on the website, and it says, "MST3K XXXVII, XXXVIII and IV are excluded from the sale."

The blue text in the above paragraph is a link to the Turkey Day sale info on the SHOUT! Factory webpage, if anyone needs any older sets and wants to know details.

Here is my revised/edited listing of all MST3K episodes and which Rhino or SHOUT! Factory set they are in.  Now includes all known original extras.  But this does not include the bonus content they created just for the DVD sets.  Anyone know of a source for such a list?  It might be kinda' useful.

INDEX OF RELEASED DVDs SORTED BY EPISODE NUMBER  Updated through V38.

Legend for what the labels mean:
"V" = 'volume'
"IND" = a release that was sold as an individual disc (not in a set)
"ESS" = in the 'Essentials' two-pack ['Manos' was also sold as an 'IND']
"20th" = '20th Anniversary' set, is also Volume 13
"25th" = '25th Anniversary' set, is also Volume 28
Sets 1-12 and all individual disc issues were Rhino, sets 13-on are all Shout! Factory.

Spoilered for length.

I've also updated the list by set number that is HERE, including the upcoming V38's episodes.

New mailing from SHOUT! Factory just tonight:

QuoteDear MSTies:

We regret to tell you that the source material for the KTMA host segments we had planned to use for the Volume XXXVIII bonus disc is not of good enough quality to create a DVD that's up to our -- or your -- standards.

We're as disappointed as you must be. We were so excited about the prospect of sharing the beginnings of MST3K with you and while we haven't given up on the releasing KTMA host segments completely, we have run out of production time to get them ready for this release.

In light of that, we have decided to move up production on a bonus DVD that was planned for later in 2017: a limited-edition reissue of the Play MSTie For Me Triple Decker DVD, the long out-of-print collection of MST3K musical performances that would put Broadway to shame.

If that sounds OK to you, there's nothing you need to do -- you'll get that bonus DVD with your order. But if you would rather cancel your order, we understand and apologize for the inconvenience. Please email info@shoutfactory.com with your order number and we will take care of it.

Thanks for understanding. We really appreciate your support!

Best,

Team Shout! Factory

Rather bummed about this.  Would rather have 'low quality' KTMAs, since ALL of the Triple Decker content is spread throughout the rest of the DVDs.  In other words: there is NOTHING that will be 'new' on that disc.  [It doesn't help that I already HAVE the MST3K Fan Club's version of the Triple Decker DVD.]

Not sure yet if I will cancel with SHOUT! and change to Amazon for just the volume discs, or keep the order and sell the bonus disc.

I was just thinking, do you think Shout may try and re-license some of the ones on your list as IND in order to put them in 4 disc sets as they work on getting things lined up for the "unlikely" ones?

SJP

I could see that happening.  They've done it before, and considering that most of them are probably not hard to get the rights to, if they even have to (I'm pretty sure no one is claiming Red Zone Cuba or Eegah anytime soon), Shout might be happy to have them all in numbered box sets.  The only one of those I never bought was the Essentials set with Santa Claus vs. the Martians (I had heard the episode was mediocre though I had never seen it, and I already owned Manos and didn't want to buy it again), so if they re-released those I wouldn't be unhappy at all.  Also, the shelf space those single discs take up would probably be happy to open up...

How did Amazing Colossal Man end up on the Very Unlikely list anyway? Rhino pulled it off on VHS back in the day...

I'm a little bit torn. I admire how staunchly Shout has worked to ensure nobody's forced to double-dip on anything, but it would be so much easier to keep track of my episodes if they were all in sets. I'm not even sure which individual disc releases I still need.

I COMPLETELY disagree about Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, BTW. It's in my Top 10, easy. Maybe Top 5.

That is why I use Josh Way's excellent covers. Every episode in a thinpak in order.  I do have a spreadsheet to keep track of which ones aren't a factory disc.

That was what I had heard back in the early days of DVD collecting.  If I had been smart, I would've just gotten it anyway.

As for Colossal Man, that was a thing like Godzilla vs. Megalon...I think.  It was either they got the rights from the wrong people, or didn't get the proper clearances in the first place, but either way the rights owners said no and it had to be pulled. That it got released at all was a miracle.

I made all the matching dvd labels for Josh's covers.  I haven't printed a DVD label in a million years. Don't know if I still have all the templates handy.
