Jules Verne's Mysterious Island

[Toby Danger]

I don't know if Mike and co are interested in doing those made-for-TV family serials which tend to show up during the school holidays, but if they are, then this production of the old Jules Verne story, made by those schlock masters at Hallmark, would be right up their alley.

There's just tons of stuff to make fun of here. The giant insects, brought to life with terribly cheap CG effects, the dreary acting, a character who sports a huge handlebar mustache, Patrick Stewart phoning in his usual Uptight Bald Guy role...

But it all pales in comparison to Snatch star Vinnie Jones, who goes way over the top as walking pirate cliche Bob Harvey. Watching him, you'll wonder if he really wanted to star in Pirates of the Caribbean.

All in all, a good 'bad' film to laugh at, especially if you like pirates.
