Here's my personal oppinion on Disembaudio Riffing: It's all right for Disembaudio to chime in (Occasionally) and provide his own riffs when Mike's riffing alone. Riffing works ten times better when there's someone to occasionally play off of.
HOWEVER, I don't like the tangental riffing that took place a lot in fifth element. If Disembaudio wants to make fun of a line or two in a way that only a disembodied voice can, I have no problem with that. But when he and Mike have a little side-coversation during the movie, it distracts us from the movie, pulling us out and pulling us out of the whole riffing experience.
To summarize:
Disembaudio telling Mike Nelson not to look during the dirty scenes in Roadhouse: Classic!
Disembaudio talking about his plans for world domination, or what have you during a cool action sequence: Distracting!

What do you think, Sirs? (And how about YOU, madams, while you're at it?)

I see some very valuable points there. It is rather distracting when a robotic toaster chimes in about his plans for world conquest when we are right in the middle of good riffing material.

Perhaps it is the quality of the material though, rather than the fact that DA is talking? Maybe him talking would be desirable if he worked on his material a little more??

I'll work on your material...

You tell 'em, Disembaudio!

Seriously, stop wailing on DA, man.  He rules, and stuff.

Hey, I've said time and again that DA is my home-toaster, and that I'd rather choose him than Mia Hamm for a fussball partner ANY day of the week and twice on Sundays...

JUST saying - maybe he should work on his material being more MST-ish, and less....whatever it is people don't like?

I dunno - Perhaps I have angered him and now all of my Ego Waffels will be bitterly burned....

Ego Waffles?  Isn't that what William Shatner eats for breakfast?  HAHA, I kid Captain Kirk because I love...

Anyways, sorry I couldn't resist.

Carry on.

I thought Disembaudio was funny at times during Fifth Element -- some of his riffs sounded (awesomely) like he just walked into the room from a bathroom break and started making jokes.

But overall, I felt there was a little too much, and I'm not sure if it was scripted or not, but even Mike seemed to want him to step back a little...

J-Proof

Honestly, Mike doesn't like ANY of us very much - I saw him whispering secrets into his stuffed cow doll one day, and things have been quite strange ever since....

I really like disembaudio for the fact that he helps you
keep your spot in the movie, but I actually found him
kind of annoying in the Fifth Element.  If he was actually
riffing on the movie it would probably be kind of funny, yet
some of the scenes were he talked a good bit I thought were
a little too much.  I didn't detract from my enjoyment of the
rifftrack though.

I dunno... The Fifth Element riffing was just kind of lame all around, but DB's rant on "death penatly for car thieves" was pretty darn funny!

Dude!  "Lame all around"?  It was awesomesauce all around, is what it was!  Anyone who disagrees s-cks c--k by choice!

It's funny riffing on a silly movie.  What's not to like?

Here's my personal opinion on DisembAudio Riffing: DA Rules Dah Hizzhouse! Who's house? DisembAudio's house! Who's house? DisembAudio's house!

Actually what I surmised after listening to the Fifth Element commentary... more times in this brief spanse than I care to admit even to other geekfreaks, is that the points where DA & Mike start having a conversation are points where Mike really didn't have anything worthy to chime in with. Had they not done something in that section, there would have been dead air for a minute or two, because Mike had nothing he felt worth contributing. So instead, he got with ..the man behind DAh Voice and they whipped up a quick little funny dialogue to fill in that gap. I mean look at the places where the DA/Mike convos take place. Two significant moments I can recall offhand are when the two alien races are fighting, and during the opera singer's Ziggy Stardust impersonation while LeeLoo is in the middle of her own action sequence. Both times all that's happening is action. Not a lot to riff on, to be perfectly honest. Mike could have just thrown in a couple zingers here and there but they wouldn't have measured up to what was going on, on screen.

We'd have to get Mike himself to step in and say yay or nay to this, but I bet if we were able to look at the notes he took prior to recording, he didn't have much in way of funny in those places where DA chimes in. Had DA not chimed in, we woulda probably had silence, or lines that Mike himself didn't think all that funny. So maybe you should give DA a little more respect, huh?

I think when we're criticizing the choice of Mike & DA having a talk in the middle of YOUR RiffTrax, what we're really doing is questioning whether or not Mike Nelson knows what the hell he's doing. Now WHO WAS HEAD WRITER FOR MST3K FOR TEN YEARS, huh? I don't recall seeing your name in the credits.

AS IF any of us would know better than Mike whether or not DA should be chiming in with references to robots taking over the world. DUH. Now quit dissin' my man DisembAudio and show him the love deserving of a disembodied robot voice who keeps you in sync! Where's the love? Show the me love! Give it up for him... er, or it. He might be an it, kinda hard to look under the skirt of a disembodied voice to tell.
My wishlist: Leonard Part 6, Gigli, Shanghai Surprise, Mannequin, Supercross, Spice World, Pluto Nash, Angel Heart, Ghost Dad, Flashdance, Home Alone, Lifeforce, Maximum Overdrive, Phantasm, Poltergeist 3, Pretty Woman, Robocop, Sixth Sense

Movies I don't want Riff'd
any Tom Cruise movies. Yuck

Oh calm down ZachsMind.  Don't get so worked up over what other people think is and isn't funny.  I personally never said Disembaudio was not funny, but my own post and another I noticed mentioned that there was too much of him in certain scenes.  Whether they had anything better to say in those scenes or not is hardly my point.  My point is that in some scenes in the Fifth Element with DisembAudio seemed excessive.

Don't be such a fanboy.  It is acceptable for people to give feedback, whether or not you agree with it.  If all we did on this message board is say how much everyone loves everything, they would have no idea what we as consumers thought worked and didn't work.  I respect the fact that you apparently really, really like DisembAudio, and I don't question that, but try to respect that some of us are just trying to voice what we felt were the weak parts of the commentary.  You should remember they are selling a product and they likely not offended by someone respectfully saying what they did and did not like about the RiffTrax.
