Getting closer to a paint scheme I like for the landing gear, or maybe this is it, keep going back and forth in my head wanting the darker metal parts just a touch darker, but that will be really tricky to do...

MartyS (Gromit)

I settled on a think coat of translucent black over the dark silver, pretty much done with major painting, on to decals...

Started on decals and a lot of them are bathroom fixtures, sinks, bathtubs, urinals...  I guess when making the filming models they had some dry transfer sheets for doing bathroom blueprints and used them, sinks do look like hatches, corner sinks look like scanners of some kind...

Hmmmm, "captain"?  I don't think they ever used that word on Space: 1999.  It was always "commander".

You never watched Space: 1999?  You should give it a try sometime.

Decals are done with a satin clearcoat over them, seems those bathroom fixture drawing were use like greeblies on the filming models, so I added a few extras to my Eagle.

Maybe at some point in the future when I get more practice at weathering I'll add some dirt to it, but for now it's going to stay factory fresh.

Bunch of picts:

That really looks superb, MartyS!

If you want temporary 'dirt' on it, you could try a powder called 'Zeasorb'.  Despite it being intensely drying, it has a slight stickiness to it (not sure, but it may be static).  So you could sprinkle a bit on, then, if you decide later you want it clean again, take it outside with a can of compressed air and blow it back off.  I would DEFINITELY suggest trying it on a painted sprue or something to see if it gives an effect you like (and if it sticks to that), plus to see if it blows off as easily as I think it might.

I will have to look up Space: 1999.  I really should know our 18 year-old space history, after all!

Actually I think it was because it looked cheesy when it first came out that I just didn't give it a chance back then.  But if you - with your S-F taste and science background - think it worthwhile, I'll have to check it out.  [Just searched and it's not on Netflix, and is $40 a season on Amazon.  Any ideas for freebie viewing for a test drive?]

It does have some cheesyness to it, and the pacing can be slow at times, but it's got the feel of old sci-fi books from the 50s.

Amazingly it's on archive.org, but pretty low resolution, but it will tell you if you want to spend money on it, the HD transfer they did for the Blu-Ray set for season 1 looks great.

I forget to look at archive.org for things. :(  I've got season 1 downloading now.  '50s SF books as a reference point sounds good - I used to enjoy the Heinlein books from that point (his later more adult/intellectual fare was better, but still liked the earlier stuff).  And, if after a couple episodes it seems a good fit for me, I'll be looking into the Blu-rays. :)  Thanks!

Did you watch any yet?  After finishing the model I rewatched the first 2, they are fairly representative of what you get with the rest of the series.  There are better and worse episodes later on.

Funny, I was just getting on here to comment on that! :)   Yes, Friday I watched the first two, and after the first episode went ahead and downloaded the second season from archive.org.  Having seen it's tone and depth, while it was easily enjoyable enough to watch them all, I didn't think I'd rewatch the series enough times to warrant buying the Blu-rays.  [My criteria: take the lifetime number of anticipated rewatchings of something, multiply that by the cost of renting it each time - if that doesn't exceed the purchase cost, I usually won't buy whatever.]  Saturday I watched the next two.  It is much better than I anticipated it would be at the time it first came out.  Sort of in the middle between original Star Trek and early (B&W) Lost in Space (but a bit closer to Trek).

Thanks for suggesting them, I've been serially running out of things to watch, because I've seen so many films and TV series already (one of the many frustrating things about being unable to work, but WAY down on the list of frustrations, well below "being unable to work").

Unfortunately for season 2 they made a lot of changes that I didn't like.  Can't even get the Blu-Ray for season 2 in the USA, only region B.
