Something really offputting about this film...

Did anyone else find something about this film to be... off? The way it was directed... all the adult characters seemed lobotomized & the cinematography was glacial, like Mike Leigh by way of David Lynch (or vice versa).

I should mention where I'm coming from: I'm not a huge fan of the HP series. Azkaban was the only one I watched on its own & enjoyed, pre-Rifftrax. And as average as I found Goblet of Fire, hoo boy, after seeing this one I at least appreciated that GoF had a sense of momentum. This... this was... how can I put it. Like it was trying to be "darker" and more "mature", but it went about it in such a drably offputting way. Everyone acted like retarded dream-sequence versions of themselves. I mean, how in god's name do you drain the life out of David Thewlis?! That's a sad, sad accomplishment. Even in other less-than-perfect films, Dr. Moreau for instance, he still has a personality. He had personality in Azkaban. In this movie, he was just a near-mute nondescript guy who sat at a table & watched Gary Oldman talk.

I really didn't like this movie, and I found the glacial drabness to drag the Rifftrax down too. This is the first time I've really felt like a movie "infected" its Rifftrax.

Does anyone get what I'm saying? HP fans or not, did anyone else find this to be a significant drop in quality?

I'll agree on the movie being a little drab and glacial. But not on the Riff itself, this was a great one. Though I think the weak characters may have been due to how they were interpreting the book, but that is just a guess.

But the darker and moodier feeling of the movies (and books) just keep going. I guess you have yet to see the next one. It is slow paced, dark, moody, and has a number of half plot lines. The only reason I had an idea of what was going on was because my sister had read the books, and was filling in the missing and messed up parts. Though I have yet to see the new one.

On that note, I can't wait for the next riff.

I actually think this is the best of the 8 movies. I like 3, 4, 5 and 6. 1 and 2 are movies for kids, so not really for me, and 7 and 8 are boring and depressing.
