Best Way to Change Size of MP3 Rifftraxs?

Okay, in the new world of Apple, you can take up to 25,000 songs that you have in your iTunes on the home PC, and link ALL of the songs to ALL of your ipads, ipods, iphones, etc.  Since that many songs would be too big to actually fit on your devices, you can sent them to their icloud, then all your devices would have the ability to access all the songs without them actually being on your devices (since that cannot happen anyway due to space).  With the iTunes Match (for $25 a year) that Apple allows, you can access these songs even if you have your home PC turned off.  The only downside to that is you can only load to icloud songs at less than 200MB.

And finally.........this is where Rifftrax comes in.  The bit rate for the Rifftraxs are normally 92 bit rates (since they are two hours long!), so the size of the file is around 100MB which is 100% fine.

Some of the iRiff groups use a 256 bit rate which means their riffs are over 200MB, so you cannot load them on icloud.  This means you cannot listen to the riff on your phone while the DVD is playing.  Sure, we could actually load them on every single apple device we have, but that is a pain and will force something else off your device and that kind of defeats the new world of getting data.

So........... rather than have the groups go throught he effort to redo their Riffs, is there a good tool that we can download and change the bit rate from 256 to 160 or 92 ourselves?  There really is no way to do that with iTunes now and I really do not like loading random software like you can see in google cuz you never know what they really are?

So, anyone have anything in mind that they have experience with?

The RiffTrax MP3s are also MONO which helps bring the size down. I bet a lot of the Iriffs are stereo.

You can use Foobar 2000.  http://www.foobar2000.org/

I use it for converting DTS/AC3 tracks to wav for re-authoring but I was able to take a stereo MP3 and convert it to mono with a low bit rate and take a 3.8 mb file and make it 775kb.

Thanks, I will give that a shot.  The Norton system said it was safe.

Bob

Of course, it comes with no instructions on how to do anything and nothing seems real obvious.  And since I am a software IT guy, that is not a good thing that it makes no sense.

I read those Foobar instructions online, but that was not possible to do on the version I downloaded from them.   They must have additional down loads that you must do......

May have to try the audacity.........or just hope people create their riffs under 200MBs!

Bob

Thanks, I will give that a try today......seems simple!

Ah the fun world of using iCloud, iTunes Match, 2 hour movie mp3, and the large 256 bit rays that make files JUST over 200mb!

I would think that using apple products and iCloud is not that rare and more people would experience this issue.    Maybe Il Duce is just too advanced!

Of course, this is just a rare iRiff issue, so that probably explains it.

Ugh, you have to then download a software called "Lame" to allow Audacity to save things as MP3?  And the page to load that is full of ads then says it will make changes to your browser.......god knows what else it does.  Forget it.

I will just count on the iRiff groups to not make the silly huge files that you cannot really use if you use Apple icloud.

Jeez.

Variety of Cells

Sounds like that second program is aptly named.

Bob

I appreciate the suggestions everyone has given, I really do.

I just get annoyed when the Audacity gets loaded, I import the file, go to export it as a smalled MP3 and and a pop up comes up and says that I must download software from LAME to create the MP3.  And on the site there is advertising, comments about the internet browser having the option to have things added to it.,.....ugh.  And it did this on my home and work laptops, so I know it is not just something on my PC.

I've already spent WAY too much time to get an iRiff MP3 to work with Apple icloud.   So, I either just hope the ipod never crashes (cuz I can load it on there) and live with that, or just punt getting the over-sized products.

Oh well, back to other things in life that take up time.......like some inside painting.

It's all gpl freeware, so you expect to see ads on the sites from the people working on it.

Where were you trying to download it from?

The page I see only has 2 ads and they clearly say "ad" so you don't accidentally go to them:

The file you need to download and install is Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows.exe

Bob

Okay, I'm trying this again and downloaded the link you suggested and now it is burning the 256 bit rate at the 160 I picked, so hopefully it will map out at just under 200MB and work with the world that Apple is using.  Yeah, I could have went to the 92 that everyone else is using, but why not try the slighty bigger version.

While the paint is drying, time to give this a shot and I know if it will work in a bit.

Thank you guys.

Bob

And the fucking file keeps crashing iTunes.

Jesus................

FORGET IT.

MartyS (Gromit)

I don't think I've ever seen a file at a bit rate of 160, probably itunes doesn't like that rate.

Use 96kbps, that's what all the regular rifftrax are encoded at.

Bob

Trying the 96 one now.   Maybe this one will work and the Governor will stop sending his zombies on my stuff.
