Ended up going very low tech and got a set top antenna.  Ended up working alright, but it's quite hard to get a signal now that everything is digital.  I remember there being some slack in the analog days where maybe it sounded and looked a little fuzzy but you could still make out what it was.  But now either you have a signal and it looks great, or you don't have a signal and you can't hear anything.  It's made worse when it's cloudy out and I lose signal every fifteen minutes or so.

My dad has the same problem since the digital transition, the weather has to be just right for him to get CBS, makes him mad when it cuts out for the last 10 minutes of a show he is watching.  And CBS seems to be the worst network if you want to watch online, many of their shows you can't even buy until the season is over for a long time.

So, we're heading to Savannah in May and we're weighing the options on getting a car or not, thoughts, people who are familiar with the town?

Make sure the Air Conditioning is working well and bring plenty of bug repellant :o

Lots of history there; similar to Charleston, SC

Tripe

Yes I know all that, is a car a useful thing to rent?

goflyblind

you're going to have to drink water, eat food, and find a place to sleep while you're there. those things seem like they'd be important.

I think a car would be a good option, but it seems to be a city that lends itself well to walking and bicycling. I've never been to Savannah but my daughter was going to go there for school before switching to San Francisco, and the little bit of research she did lead her to believe that she could easily bike around the city. There is public transportation, but I don't know how thorough it is.

Do I get a star for that?

Well the main reason I wondered about the car is that we want to visit Bonaventure Cemetery. The bus one would take to it stops half an hours walk away from the graveyard, a walk that, if most accounts are to be believed, might have you going to the cemetery on a more permanent basis.

While I think that might be a bit overblown, I've no way of knowing and Ann has really short patience for walking a long time to get to places (it's like one of those little kids in the back seat; "are we there yet, are we there yet" plus "I'm getting tired, this is no fun!") and, since it's a place you walk around a lot, I'd like to perhaps limit the time it takes to get there as much as possible.

On the other hand, we'll be spending most of the time in the City and parking is $12 a day so not sure if we'd use the car for anything other than the cemetery.

I did have a talk with the tourist information people and they gave me the names of a few tour companies who can simply drop us off and pick us back up potentially so I'll look into that too.

Bizarre that they don't have better transportation going to the cemetery. I would think it's a famous landmark by this time.

What about an hourly car rental, like Zip Cars? Do they have something like that in Savannah?

Ooh yeah didn't think about Zip Car, will look. I'm really not fond of tours so that would be far better. :)

EDIT: Irksome, no, Atlanta and Columbus are the only locations in Georgia.

I'm looking for a step stool for my short little fiance so she can reach the higher cupboards.  Any recommendations on stools that aren't going to break immediately?  Preferably something foldable so it can be stored nicely.
