Orson Scott Card has mentioned at least once that the movie they are making is not his story, but he likes the story anyway.

So apparently Orson Scott Card is a loony, or at least a paranoid homophobe and racist.

Yep, that has been talked about quite a bit here, particularly the homophobia.

Just recently read the book. Had heard good and bad things about it (although most of the bad things were really attacks on the author, but wacko authors frequently make for entertaining reading even when I totally disagree with what they've written). Despite being predictable, I thought it was an entertaining light read that would make a good movie. For the book to be done into a movie correctly though, the violence would need to be kept mostly intact which would likely earn it an R rating. But the trailer really makes it look like they've taken everything that made the book interesting and entertaining out and are instead going for "Harry Potter in Space".

I WANT this movie to be awesome. The Ender's Series is probably my favorite series, but I just don't know how they're going to turn it into a decent movie. So much of the book is internal, I just don't see how it'll work.

Went to see it on Friday. What was there was mostly faithful to the book (more so then I was expecting), but a lot of the characterization of any characters other than Ender was left out as was a lot of what led to the secondary characters ending up following Ender. My overall take was it wasn't as good or as bad as it could have been but I'd recommend it if you liked the book. My wife hadn't read the book and thought it was a good movie, but that it was a bit too serious and depressing.
