Any intitial optomistic hope for my Cubs this season is gone. This is a really, really bad team. Might not end up with worst overall record, but on pace for giving up most runs ever.

Cubs have looked better after allstar break but another 10 game losing streak or 3 before the year is out wouldn't be surprising and it's not like they have much of a chance to make it back to 500 for the season. Weird draft in that after a decade plus of drafting the best player available they instead drafted almost all pitchers. Makes some sense since that is their biggest weakness but it'll be 4 or more years before that might start to pay off. Do have some OK position players that don't really need to be upgraded, but starting catcher, best outfielder, and closer almost certain to be traded before tomorrow's trade deadline. So will need sign a new catcher, at least 3 starting pitchers, and 2 decent infielders in the off season to give me much hope for a 500 team next year.

Phillies trying their best to not get the wildcard as the regular season winds down. About the only time I've been rooting against my Cubs (who have had a decent 2nd half of the season despite being terrible for the 1st half to the point that they were out of any playoff contention by June) only because I don't want the Brewers to get the final NL wildcard spot.

Well, Brewers couldn't beat the Marlins so Phillies are still half a game up.

Phillies have been choking hard in September the last 4 years, thought this year would be different but it's not looking good.

Phillies have been beating up on the Nationals all year, we'll see if they continue that or continue to choke the next 4 games in DC.

Phillies not only got the wildcard, they knocked the Cardinals out in the first round.
Now my only interest is in seeing the Yankees lose.

Going to be another long tedious season as a Cubs fan. They made enough moves in the off season to not be terrible, but not so great pitching going to likely keep the around .500 most of the year - although tough schedule in April may mean a good 5+ games below that heading into May.
Still don't like the elimination of the designated hitter and starting with a runner at 2nd in extra innings, but kind of liking the pitch clock as it is making for faster games. Not sure what to make of the new rules on shifting - the shift was a rather new thing so eliminating it doesn't upset me - but not sure I understand the rule yet. Missed spring training games cause TMobile didn't make their free MLB.tv available until right before the start of the regular season.

Brewers threatening to leave Milwaukee unless gov't pays for half a billion in stadium upgrades. Gov't owns stadium and Brewers just lease it from them. Half a billion dollars! Not a Brewers fan but enjoy going there a time or two a year when Cubs are in town. Miller Park (or whatever they are calling it now) is only 22 years old
While I find it bland and uninteresting as far as sports stadiums go, it still appears to me to be in just as good of shape as it was when it opened - definitely in far better shape than some other places I've been to games.

My Cubs have just been dreadfully terrible for most of the last month...and yet they are only 3 games out of first place in their division.

Haven't watched nearly as much baseball this year as I usually do, but I think today was the 5th or 6th time this year I wanted to watch a game only to find it's not on MLB.tv but is a Paramont+ or AppleTV exclusive - 2 streaming services I don't have. The NFL is this direction as well.

Well, my Cubs made it to game 161 before being eliminated from the playoffs, but they were eliminated. Just a god awful last 3 weeks of the season after making a big comeback after the allstar break. Relief pitching (mainly due to injuries) was their downfall. Lost track of how many games they were up these last 3 weeks goimg into the 8th ot 9th only to lose. Disappointing end to the season.

Two weeks ago I was sure it would be Phillies Cubs in the Wildcard, maybe Phillies Diamondbacks, now I think it's Phillies Marlins here in Philly this week.
