A couple of months ago, Lionsgate and Echo Bridge Entertainment won the rights to Miramax Films' movies. Lionsgate has the rights to the big movies (Pulp Fiction, Scream 1-3, Shakespeare in Love, Good Will Hunting, Clerks, etc.) and Echo Bridge has the rights to the smaller films and basically all of the horror stuff. Their selections includes the From Dusk Till Dawn, Halloween, Children of the Corn, Hellraiser and The Crow series, The Faculty, Equilibrium, etc.

Anyways, EB are doing new DVDs and Blu-Rays for these movies, but, frankly, they suck. They have NO special features, NO subtitles or Closed Captions, they are in DTS 2.0, and they are all downgraded to 1.78:1. One reason that these suck so much, other than the fact that EB put no effort into these releases, is because EB and Alliance Entertainment (a Canadian company who does shitty versions of these movies too) are both related to each other somehow. Overall, it's best for people to hang on to their old DVDs of the Miramax films that EB has the rights to, which sucks since older Miramax DVDs aren't made for HDTVs and have to be formatted in 4:3 even though the movies are in widescreen.

You can see some peoples thoughts on the Halloween H20 Blu-Ray here for better explanation:

So Miramax folded? I'm out of the loop I guess.

Edit: Nevermind looks like a distribution partnership. Miramax is still around.

It's kinda complicated, and I don't know too many details, but my understanding is the current Miramax is reformed with some of the same people, but isn't technically the same company. They're no longer connected with Disney and they don't have claims on the old Miramax movie library, which is why it's been split with other companies.

These guys are releasing some of the Pokemon movies too...they're probably going to wreck those.  >:(

Ya know, I feel bad for Children of the Corn fans (actually, no I don't. Those movies are terrible!) because, while they are bringing COTC2 to DVD for the first time ever, they are ruining it by the fact that they ruin everything. That DVD is in full screen too, though I've heard that that movie was filmed in fullscreen.

They're also bringing Hellraiser 3 back to DVD (it was OOP for a while), but that DVD will suck too (and is in full screen, but that movie was in widescreen. At least, I've heard the old DVD was)
