I just noticed something I can't explain

Why exactly did Darth Maul have to duel two jedis?

The only thing I can come up with is that he had to die, so that Anakin could be the new apprentice.

Always two there are. No more, no less. A Master, and an Apprentice.

Maul had to defeat the Jedis because there were two of them, and Sidious was under cover. Plus, Maul is the young gun looking to show off his skillz.

Most importantly, Lucas had to up the ante drastically. No more boring saberfights, the fans hunger for action. Give a dual-bladed saber to a British Wu Shu champion, and watch the dough roll in!!!

Well, the only thing I can't explain is how he loses to Obi-Wan when he clearly had the high ground at the end of the fight!

Indeed.  He had the higher ground, and yet, Obi-wan should have wound up lightly grilled cajun style over hot lava rocks with just a smidgen of "I hate you" brand tobasco sauce.

I remember reading an old 'Twisted ToyFare Theater' skit where Spider-Man watches The Phantom Menace, and Maul gets cleaved in half....

Spider-Man: "Did you see that? All he did was stand there."
" LISTEN KID. I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes. " -Roger Murdoch, Airplane!

QuoteDid you see that? All he did was stand there."

nice

Pak-Man

Hrmmm. Knowing how Palpatine was manipulating things from the get-go, the plan could very well have been to send Maul out to his death and take out Qui-Gon in the process (Qui-Gon would have trained Ani otherwise. He might have kept Ani from the dark side...)

i now think obi wan is to blame for vader.  he was just to inexperienced to raise him.
