Will someone please tell me why they used music that sounded like it was from Lord of the rings in the Man of Steel trailer?
Movie trailers use other music all the time.  I can't tell you how many trailers used Kamen's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" theme, and the theme from Children of Dune by Brian Tyler was used in tons of movies as well.
I understand that, but the context of the original piece was just SO damn distracting and took me out of the trailer. Seriously, if they wanted to get me excited for another Superman film, they utterly failed. And I can't even begin to tell you how disappointed I am. I fear I am starting to get too cynical for movies.

Well, I dunno. I doubt I'd have recognized it as LOTR-y, just as generic actiony music.  I'm always way more bothered about the "wub-wub-wub" noise that's mandatory in every trailer now.
It sounded like the music that played right after they just got out of the Mines of Moria... It's pretty distinct and I think most people who saw Fellowship would recognize it right away.

I don't know why they wouldn't have used a bit of the John Williams Superman theme.  Would have been a hell of a lot more effective.

There was a bit of a reaction to the trailer, but not what I would have expected.  Hell, the Raimi "Oz" trailer got a bigger reaction from the crowd at my theater.

Methinks this film has a big hurdle to climb over, that being the turd that was Superman Returns.

Yeah, I mean how could you follow up Superman IV, the beloved epic that it was?

Yeah, I guess there are a lot of hurdles for this new one to overcome.  Can anyone actually make a Superman movie that works?

See that's like a coprolite really, the last one is still semi soft and glistening.

There are few movies that can insult my intelligence like Superman IV. Oh, on a happy note, this year is Superman IV's 25th anniversary... wait? Did I say happy, I meant depressing.

You know limericks aren't free verse, right?  That they need to scan?
Fine, I'll just delete them Imrahil.

The trailers for The Two Towers used music from Requiem For A Dream.

Tripe

Oh yeah Lux Aeterna is a perennial favourite, mostly for amateur vid makers.

For The Twin Towers it was rearranged a bit though:

D.B. Barnes

You just know the movie's gonna be good if they use this in the trailer.

VIVA IL ESORDIO DEL DIABETE ADULTO DUCE!!!

They shouldn't have doubled-up Man of Steel with another teaser. I think that adversely affected the trailer's impact A LOT.
