But now, as it currently stands, there is no way it could possibly confuse people.

Poor Conor.  So young and naive.  I promise, you underestimate the stupidity of people  ;D

(I'm only kidding and by no way do I mean imply the person who started this thread or any thread is one of those stupid people but I do promise there is really someone out there who would be confused even if you handed them a reauthored DVD and told them just to play it.  Heck, probably even if you put it in the DVD player, started it and handed them the remote).
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

Yes - even though we believe the cart to be very simple and easy to use, no one be afraid to voice detailed and constructive opinions on possible improvements. I really think we've considered everything within reason and capability, but please continue to voice your opinions, and remember what I said previously:

***********

With the former site we had three, count em, three cart systems running through it because of extreme limitations through Paypal/EJunkie/Ebay etc etc. This, coupled with the fact that we had no easy way to update the site if a new product was released caused for major back-aches on both ends.

With the current setup, you resubmit your information (all of which is a one-time AND NECESSARY deal*) and the benefits are numerous: The system knows who you are when you want to order something, and your shipping address is memorized for DVD and other giftshop purchases.

When you think about it, paypal asked for far more information than our system (such as your bank account number if you are an actual paypal member...) and certain items in the old system had the potential to cause continuous re-submission of information (new gift items etc etc)

So really, resubmitting your data this one time shouldn't be that big a deal - The overall process of ordering future items is so much simpler this way, and that is our overall goal for the consumer. We have tested the cart a variety of diferent times ourselves, using our own cards to purchase items and discussed what would be easiest. (And no, keeping the old site's operating system was not an option)

Just be patient with us, Riffaholics! We love you all dearly - so eat your vegies!
-J

*NECESSARY: In order to validate that your card actually belongs to you, ANY shopping cart on the net (that is a proper and authorized cart) will require your billing and shipping info. This is the same step that cashiers should be taking when checking your license to make sure you are who you say you are, and that the name registered on the card is the same name as the person holding it.

Not to confuse the issue, but my complaint was with how the re-registration was handled. I don't have a problem with re-registering, it was the lack of telling the customer what was going on. For example, if the re-registration page had said: "Due to upgrades on the RiffTrax web site, we will require you to re-register. This will only affect your login but not your forum, Paypal, or credit card accounts. Please use the same information used for your original login. Thank you for your understanding in this matter and helping to make RiffTrax the most awesome thing on the planet since a hamburger and french fried potatoes".

What happened was I was just confronted with a registration screen with no idea what was going on.

So, to clarify, this had noting to do with re-registering and everything to do with just doing something, anything, right. It was not done right.

Misunderstanding my comments would make the grade: D-
Please don't settle for poor design, management, or customer support.
One idea: hire QA.

TOR,

I apologize if we did not provide the customers with enough information on our switch.  Regarding your closing statement, the design of the new site ROCKS and most members agree it is a great improvement.  Regarding management they are a bunch of screwups, no wait now that I think about it I am management, I take offense to you slanderous comments sir this calls for a dual.  Ok maybe not a dual.  But please try to understand we are a small little company with only a few people working on RiffTrax and we are doing our best to make everything the best we can with the resources and time we have.  Try to cut us a little slack and we will do our best to make everyone happy.  In fact a major reason for the site upgrade is so that in the future we will have more time to make improvements and fixes to make all of you happy.  Regarding QA well again we are a small company with little to no money for a QA staff.  I wish we did. All we can do is try our best, it seems most of the fans are very understanding of this.

You seem to misunderstand an important thing: this was NOT a "re-registration." It was a "new" registration. Your argument is almost like signing up for a PayPal account, and then blasting eBay for making you "re-register" to buy stuff from them.

Sure, we have the forums and they are a separate registration - this is true. But do you have any idea how many people there are who visit the site AND also post here? It's minuscule compared to the amount of customers we have. So to the majority there never was any "re-registration."

I'm not quite sure why there was confusion - we thought it was easy enough to understand, because even in its original form, it asked you to login, and if you couldn't, then to register as a NEW CUSTOMER. We realized that it wasn't obvious to some of you that this is DIFFERENT from your forum or PayPal registration information, and we fixed that issue to accommodate. We hope that it's now easy enough for everyone to understand.

However, your condescension in your post almost outweighs your legitimate concern with a new, different, and scary registration screen. Suggesting that we hire QA, not to settle for poor design, management and customer support, and giving us a mock grade of a D-... well, that makes you no better than any other Internet troll. Believe me when I say your comments were not misunderstood. We take all of your comments into consideration, and every single one of the support emails that gets sent to us, including support requests on our forum, are answered in more time than most big businesses take to process an order.

If you don't like something, fine. Tell us and we'll listen. But to take a holier-than-thou approach is not the best way to get your concerns addressed.

MrTorso

I was going to say, how can there be "re-registration" when there was no registration to start with. You had the forum login and it has nothing to do with making a purchase.

Haha! Flounders at twenty paces!

Concerning the new design, it's 99% rockin' and good, and I'm enjoying it, and I love it, and please don't ban me for criticizing it.

The "please don't settle" comment was in response to J-Proof to "settle down". That riled me. :P I wanted to say that criticisms shouldn't be marginalized (or worse, trivialized). Criticisms aren't attacks on the whole site or individuals (I hope). I should tell you that I work as a QA Engineer for web sites, so I'm speaking professionally. Customer feedback (especially negative) is quality gold. I humbly suggest appreciating it and learning from it ;). You say you can't afford QA? Well here's free QA hand delivered to your doorstep. This doesn't mean I am ungrateful for all the hard work that everybody is doing. I just want RiffTrax to succeed bigtime. The "poor" design/man/CS etc. refers to the 1% flaws that inevitably pop up after release. The "D-" was for the re-registration process for leaving out some info not a judgment of the whole site. Lord no!

I hope I'm not digging a hole for myself with these added comments. I just don't want to be cast as unappreciative or unsupportive (or worse, mean).  ;D

Time For Best Regards,
TOR

My apologies for any holier-than-thou comments or condescension. I was only trying to... um... oh, forget about my intentions. People's intentions are always good even when they make an arse out of themselves.

I'll try to handle it better next time.

I work in web programming, and often take the approach that the customer needs to think for themselves.

I had a bit of an insane moment, as TOR did, when going through this process, but then I took a breath, thought for a second, and completed the registration process.

It seems logical that having a centralized and personalized cart would be a lasting advantage that would outweigh the one-time pain of registering.

I'm hoping that when I come back to make my next purchase that it will be a straightforward process, but I'm anticipating logging in twice -- once for Rifftrax and once for Paypal.  And yes, that is like eBay, and I'll of course get used to it.

I do wonder, however, how the NTSC vs PAL preference idea is going.  It seems like something people wouldn't really change, and you'd be able to eliminate a page, but then I guess you'd add a preference.  Kinda like what they say at weddings, lose a son, gain a daughter.  Oh lord, now I've cliched myself.  Time to go :)
HEY, THANKS FOR RIFFTRAX-ING THE APPLE!

BathTub

Well before I started doing the conversions I was almost swapping between PAL and NTSC weekly. Probably not the sort of thing that region 1 guys went through, but I am pretty sure you will find many Region 2/4 people will have a mix of regions in their collection due to how the studios didn't put any effort into worldwide releases in the earlier DVD days.

cry me a river already  :violin:   just kidding of course, is that gist enough or can we at least pretend some gist has been hit  :speechless:

It's a simple statement, not sure why you're making a big deal out of it. Unless you are saying that I am totally wrong and the average collection (including yours) is significantly PAL, like mine is over half NTSC.

Clearly then, since I need to spell it out, while someone whos set is primarily NTSC wouldn't need to switch from week to week from NTSC to PAL and back again when buying their rifftrax, it's a bit more likely that someone from a PAL zone would.
