Yeah i guess.  I still find it funny that he used brass unicorn, why one earth would you think that was even in the Bible?!

It was meant to be the curse of 'beasts.'

Still an odd choice though.

Now I get it!

I had forgotten Egypt was full of Unicorns at the time :D

OOH! Also, I was rewatching Beast Of Yucca Flats the other day. How about the RiffTrax Forum Film Anti-Preservation Society? RiffFAPS?

That implies that the idea is watching terrible movies, which it's not.

Mr Basehart suggested Cinemaniacs, and since it's his baby, and since there was no opposition, I think that wins.

I started a master thread so that people joining us late can catch up and follow along and also for easy reference.

I'm including the title, the person who suggested the film and the average rating (will happily update the scores as we go - don't worry if you haven't voted yet and want your vote counted!)

So far this movie ranks a 6.8 out of 10, which is a very respectable score!

FINE

Doctor Who?

I'd give this movie a 6.5/10.

It was not too good, but it was fun enough that I didn't feel I wasted my time.

Remember, the guy was supposed to be a loon.  Plus maybe there was a logistical issue.  He was able to acquire bats. rats, and locusts, but his supplier was fresh out of frogs, so he had to improvise with the frog mask.

Plus there is this, which may have had something to do with it also:

"God brought them out of Egypt; he hath, as it were, the strength of a unicorn." Numbers 23:22

I think Snape prances around on it soon after.

That's odd.  I just checked two Bibles and they both say "wild ox".  That's odd.

Sounds like you've got the Mormon version. There's some weird shit in there. Unicorns are just the beginning.

Oh, I know this is about good movies. I just like the idea of a nod to a classic MST3k segment. Mr Basehart's Flying Circus has a nice ring to it.

Only if I get to preform Dead Parrot with someone.

I don't do Kama Sutra positions since that nasty sprain a while back.  Perhaps Sharky...?

I'll perform Python skits with you any time, Doc. Except for that nude pianist bit.

Steve-O

I just finished watching this.  I'll assemble my thoughts later, but for now, just a couple of things.

1. I've had it with all the muthafuckin' rats on this muthafuckin' plane!

2. As usual, Terry-Thomas is six shades of awesome.  I don't know what the '-' is about, but I like to think his middle name is "Dashitall."

I was wondering that very thing earlier this evening, and consulted Wikipedia:

QuoteThomas Terry Hoar-Stevens (14 July 1911 – 8 January 1990) was a distinctive English comic actor, known as Terry-Thomas... Initially billed as Thomas (or Thos) Stevens, he considered the stage name Thomas Terry, but fearing that this might be taken as an attempt to pass himself off as a relation of the actress Ellen Terry, he reversed this to Terry Thomas. In 1948, he affected a hyphen between the two names in order to be more distinctive, largely to stop people calling him "Mr. Thomas" (which he disliked) and, according to biographer Graham McCann, "because it felt right".

I like your theory better, Steve-O.

It felt right.

By the way, the dash in "Steve-O" stands for "Hubert Reginald."

Having now read over the rest of the thread, I thought I'd add a few notes.

I put the date of the film at 1925.  Both graves in the crypt indicate that Phibes and his wife died in 1921, and Vesalius later says to the nurse, "Remember a case you assisted me with four years ago?"  Odd that she remembers exactly which case he's referring to, even though that's the extent of his description.  Even odder that this is supposed to take place in the '20s when the decor, the fashion, the wife's clothing and hairstyle all scream late-'60s-early-'70's.

As for the girl being clockwork, I actually worked that out for myself.  After she gets acidified, Vesalius looks toward his son and tells Trout, "We'll need an ambulance for them."  Trout looks right at what's left of the girl and says, "Well, what about... oh," as though he's just noticed there's no need to be concerned about her because a bunch of gears just rolled out of the stump of her neck.  Which then leads me to wonder, who are the "them" to whom Vesalius is referring?  HIs son, and who else?  Was there a third injured person in the room at some point in the script?  Perhaps Phibes himself?

Basically, this film is so confused that I believe it could be used on cats to great effect.
