This may be a little crazy but I was reading the "I have an idea" thread and while it's a good idea I came up with a different idea.....
Most digital cable companies have a service where you can watch movies "on demand" they can be new or old movies....I was thinking how great would it be if you picked a movie and had the option of purchasing a rifftrax with it? I mean it would still be legal as long as you purchase it separate from the movie....it would also eliminate the need to synch the trax......

This would require far more legal knowledge and business knowledge than I have sooooo I will just post this and hope some one reads it....

I have a feeling the cable companies would get sued because they would be selling the movie with the track.  If they synced it for you, it would be considered selling it together.  I think syncing is a necessary evil.  Unless they figure out how to make a program do it for you, it's the only way to keep it legal.

If Rifftrax had a billion dollars, I'd suggest that they develop an MP3 player designed to be hooked up between the audio out on the DVD player and the audio-in on the DVD player that would analyze the incoming audio data and figure out what movie was being played, then play the Rifftrax MP3 at just the right time.

And that's my cooky pipe-dream. I want a Riffpod. :^)

I personally steal my dreams from children, but yeah, it's still dreaming I suppose.

The way RiffTrax is doing business now is great. Low overhead which = low prices. If they start dealing with movie companies and tv stations, then its going to start getting expensive.

Either way it is low over head for Rifftrax with what I am talking about.....all they need to do is write a rifftrax  and provide it to the cable companies and let them do all the work on supplying it to the customer.....really they could set up some of the rifftrax that are already available to do this....

I suppose the ratings of Mike's Showtime on demand segments would be a major factor in seeing your idea through. If any channel were to partner with rifftrax, it would be on-demand showtime.

I love how it is right now. I have no problems with synching. I have to maybe pause it twice near the beginning, but once I have it right, it never gets unsynched.
