He IS Sinbad!

Anybody else see this film, as a kid, or as an adult? Personally, the monsters are cool, and I'm a sucker for good stop-motion animation, but the thing that strikes me most about it is Sokura.

Wow. Who would have thought? An evil wizard villain with character depth. He's not a bland, monolithic evil cackler. He's just a person who doesn't have any moral qualms when it comes to achieving his goal. And wow. That goal is not the ressurection of a dark god, immortality, or ruling the world. He just wants a magic lamp, because it provides ultimate safety. Protection. And what's more, he's smart. He does the whole prophecy shpeel, knowing that the king won't like what he hears, and forces Sinbad to look like the jackass and come crawling to him. Is that awesome or what?

Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger is okay, but I like 7th voyage and Golden Voyage of Sinbad better.

7th voyage RULES. I loved it. I used to watch it as a kid all the time. I destroyed our VHS copy of it by watching it so much.

*laughs* I did the same thing to my parent's copy of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Just so I could do this. "....my boss..right here, tonight. With a big ribbon on his head! So I can look him right in the eye, and tell him what a cheap, lying, no good, rotten, four flushing, lowlife, snake licking, dirt eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood sucking, dog kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat assed, bug eyed, stiff legged, spinless, worm headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah, holy shit! Where's the tylenol?!"

Awsome.
