11/9 DLC:

Bon Jovi – "Bad Medicine"
Bon Jovi – "Blaze of Glory"
Bon Jovi – "Have a Nice Day"
Bon Jovi – "I'll Be There For You"
Bon Jovi – "It's My Life"
Bon Jovi – "Lay Your Hands On Me"
Bon Jovi – "Livin' on a Prayer (RB3 version)" X
Bon Jovi – "Runaway" X
Bon Jovi – "Wanted Dead or Alive (RB3 version)" X
Bon Jovi – "We Weren't Born to Follow"
Bon Jovi – "Who Says You Can't Go Home"
Bon Jovi – "You Give Love a Bad Name (RB3 version)" X
Deftones – "My Own Summer (Shove It)" X
New Order – "Blue Monday" X
Talking Heads – "Burning Down the House" X

Tracks marked with "X" will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Well, those exclusive Gamestop DLC tracks didn't keep their exclusive status for very long.   :P  Oh well.  The RB3 versions of Bon Jovi tracks are interesting.  I wonder if they went back and redid the regular instrument charts?  If so, I might buy these new versions.

I'm not really a Bon Jovi fan, but there's definitely a few of those that I'll pick up.  (I mean, come on,  tracks off the Young Guns soundtrack? I'm sold!)

Whoa....wait a sec.  It's costs an extra $.99 to get the pro version of the DLC songs?  That greatly reduces my excitement level.

Plus, no guitar till March?  That sucks.

How so? There's clearly a LOT more work involved in charting these songs for Pro instruments. I'll put it this way: I'd rather see it done this way than an overall price increase for DLC tracks.

Also, note that the extra $.99 is for pro guitar/bass.  The songs will all come with pro keyboards and drums at no extra charge.  That's a huge value in and of itself.

I totally agree that this is so much better than a $.99 price hike across the board.  At least this way people who have pro guitar can choose which songs that they wanna pay extra to have pro guitar charts on.  And people who don't have pro guitar and are never planning on getting it (like me) don't have to pay for something we'll never use.

Viacom is planning on selling Harmonix:

http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/news/2010/11/11/viacom-selling-harmonix.html
QuoteHarmonix Music System Inc. is up for sale from its parent company Viacom Inc., according to Viacom's third quarter earnings release announced this morning.

In the release, Viacom said it has already classified Cambridge-based Harmonix as a "discontinued business," citing the fact that the losses from the continuing drop in sales of games such as Rock Band was having a negative impact on its otherwise solid numbers.
A Harmonix spokesperson said company officials were not immediately available for comment.

Harmonix was founded in 1995 by CEO Alex Rigopulos and CTO Eran Egozy, who met at the MIT Media Lab. In 2006, the company sold to Viacom subsidiary MTV Networks for $175 million. The company reported about 260 employees in December of 2009, after a layoff of 39 workers.
In June, Harmonix announced that Rock Band 3, which was release earlier this month, would contain real instruments as game controllers and have a Pro feature that would help players learn how to really play music.

It makes sense that they should increase the price, but I just hadn't thought about it.  I just assumed it would all stay the same.

Wow....that was my 1000th post!

Insert Coin(s) to Continue

Does future DLC come with Pro Keyboard, or will that cost an extra dollar as well?

Bummer.  This could spell the end of weekly DLC for Rock Band 3.  We'll see who buys them, though.  My money is on Microsoft, EA, or Warner Bros Interactive.

If it's Microsoft I can't wait to see what additional ways those of us on PS3 can get screwed over.  (We already had to pay an extra $10 for the keyboard & game since we didn't get a bundle.  Plus Xbox has access to a lot more RBN tracks that we don't.)

Yeah.  It would be a bummer for Wii and PS3 owners if it happens.  The only reason I think Microsoft is a front-runner is because of their close relationship with Harmonix in the past.  The exclusive tracks (for a limited time), Rock Band Network, and giving them stage time during their E3 conferences makes me think this could happen.  Hopefully, that won't be the case, though.
