Quote"Garfield" scribes Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen will write the script.

It's good that they're changing his persona, now instead of being offensive, he'll just be boring.

My fellow Looney Tunes fans, I ask you...does ANYTHING in this article sound like a good idea?

A couple articles, maybe the occasional pronoun.  That's it.

You'll excuse me:  I think I've finally been driven to drink.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Wow and I thought that everything that shouldn't be turned into a movie already had been.

Doctor Who?

What is wrong with Speedy cartoons?  I have always liked them.

Quote"We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s -- the racist Speedy," said the comedian's wife Ann Lopez, who will serve alongside him as a producer.

Just a thought, and please, correct me if I'm wrong here...

Is it within the realm of irony for George Lopez and family to say "We're totally going to make sure Speedy Gonzales isn't stereotypical and racist" (and considering the really, truly, honestly despicably racist stuff in the annals of the Warner vault, Speedy in comparison was practically a saint) after he appears in Beverly Hills Chihuahua, where he was stereotyped as a dog considered by many to originate from Mexico?

Also, don't forget the irony that Speedy is hidden away by Warner because of stereotyping, yet he's heroic, and shoves Daffy in our faces all the time, who isn't necessarily a stereotype of anything, but he IS a gigantic a-hole to everyone he meets.  Don't get me wrong, Daffy's funny, but he's no role model.  And people wonder why kids are so screwed up anymore.

That aside, all I can say is, now I'm looking forward to Ridley Scott's take on "Monopoly" more and more.

Now clearly the problem with old Speedy is that he was being played by US voice actor, and not a Mexican.  Lopez can base his entire routine on racial stereotypes and its fine because he's mocking himself, right?

Anyway, I'm not offended by any of the changes they want to make to Speedy's baclstory (he never needed a backstory before though) I'm just offended by yet another lame sounding CGI/live action hybrid getting churned out.

I don't know why anyone would be upset just because Blanc did the voice,he did all of Warner's voices.  It's not like all of the white characters in Looney tunes were perfect either.  They were not singling out mexicans.  Also isn't GL's whole act based on steroetypes?  He may not be the best person to go to.

Does this mean that Mike is going to get in trouble the next time he does a voice on a riff for a character that does not have his exact same background.  Also why is Warners fine with Peppa Lapu?  Blanc did his voice too and he is not french.

Mel Blanc isn't Mexican in those old "Si" skits on "The Jack Benny Show", either.   Nobody is freaking out about those or locking them away where they can't be seen.

All of this shit is because someone decided to take these cartoons (that were meant for adults) and show them as kid's cartoons.....and people get stupid about what they think kids can and can't handle.

Also, I was being sarcastic.  The reason people find then offensive is that Speedy is depicted as the only one among the Mexican mice that goes against the stereotype they were based on.  All of the other mice in those cartoons is fat slow and lazy.

Doctor Who?

I never thought they were lazy, they were starvin to death because they couldn't get past the cat to get the cheese.   At least that is what i always thought was happening.

Exactly.  Truly, nothing is more offensive than churning out childhood-memory-destroying garbage than for the sake of a quick buck.  Too often, people use the term "but it's a movie for children!" to defend mind-numbing crap.  Oddly enough, that was the defense I saw of someone who rated Beverly Hills Chihuahua on IMDB.  I rest my case.

*Drops into old man voice*  Damn it, when I was a kid, we didn't have your G-Forces and Spy Kids!  We had to make do with depressing and/or violent stuff like Secret of Nimh, Goonies, Neverending Story, and Big Trouble in Little China, and we were THANKFUL for it!

Apparently there are large numbers of people out there who loved both "Space Jam" and the other Looney Tunes movie.

"Space Jam" sucks, but I thought "Back In Action" had a lot to enjoy. Amidst some bits that suck.
