Clueless and confused

[Miss Moss]

I just heard about Rifftrax and recently rented "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and "The Best of Rifftrax Shorts, Vol. 1" from Netflix. So far, you can also get "Reefer Madness," "Best of Rifftrax Shorts Vol. 2," "Carnival of Souls," and "Missile to the Moon." It looks like more will be released.

Now, if someone has already asked this question, I apologize, but why is it I am able to rent actual Rifftrax DVD's that include the movie AND the commentary, as opposed to having to download the audio-only versions?  Does anyone know what the system is?

Thanks!

The ones you can get complete from Netflix, or as complete video files are on public domain material.  Movies like Plan 9, Reefer Madness, and Missile to the Moon along with the shorts aren't owned by anyone, and anyone can distribute them without having to pay for them.  The movies they make audio-only commentaries for are movies owned by someone else, and Riftrax couldn't legally sell them, at least not without paying some big fees, which would probably make the riffs too expensive for us.

And welcome to the boards, hope you enjoy the Riffing goodness.

Simple enough! Thank you, Ronin.

No problem, happy to help.
