To Riff or not to Riff that is the Qestion...

Whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the sling and arrows of an outrageously bad movie, or by taking up arms and Riff 'gainst a good one, and having done so end the torment of thine own imperiled sanity....

Seriously, which do you prefer?  I now often find myself Riffing some of the TV re-runs on syndication on cable.  It doesn't matter whether I used to like the show or not either.  In some cases, when they're shown 2 or 3 times a day, and up to 5 days a week, well you get the idea.  I can sort of understand, if just a little the mindset that develops/has developed amongst Mike and his current and former cast members/co-stars.  After the Gazillionth viewing of any movie or TV ep, your mind, I'm sure starts to wander.  Then even serious dramatic dialog can become cannon fodder...

I certainly riff on the shows that my wife watches. She falls for the ER/Grey's Anatomy/House type of tv shows...and I can't stand them.
Usually I walk in half way through and riff on a few things in the show and then she boots me out of the room.
Then I usually go back online hang out here  :P

My wife and I are both habitual riffers... riif-aholics if you will. It doesn't matter whether it's a program we like or not, we can't resist. It just happens. When the opportunity presents itself, what are you supposed to do? Just sit there and say NOTHING?  :D

yeah its not really a matter of do i like the movie or not, i enjoy both.  Good movies plus riffing is great cause its humor and a movie i like.  A bad movie is just made even funnier with riffing.

Aye, my girlfriend and I do this by habit now. Good, bad, it all ends up at the butt-end of a joke or ten  ;D

Same here. If there's something worth riffing - whether we like it or not - my girlfriend and I (and anyone else present) will damn well riff it.

Sometimes you might say we go too far. About a month ago there was a cheesy animal rescue advert on the TV in the pub. It went:
"Apparently, this cat's inconsiderate owner used her [dramatic pause] as a football."

"Well, no," said I, "he kicked her. I don't think it was really sporting. Two other cats as goalposts. 'Stay still or you're next!'."

It just snowballed.
"This cat's inconsiderate owner used her as a [insert noun referring to an object that cats don't imitate very well]..."

The best one was from my mate Tony:
"This cat's inconsiderate owner fed her Pedigree Chum instead of Whiskas. That's a dog's food!"

All well and good, you might think. But fast-forward to the other week. We're back in the pub, and on the same TV comes an ad by the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) on violent child abuse.

My girlfriend:
"This child's inconsiderate owner..."

This probably should go without saying, but , meh...

I have slowly tainted my once innocent wife with the dark stain of riffing. She used to become rather annoyed with me if I would riff something she liked... but I think she slowly started to accept the absurdity in just about any TV show / movie and now drops some gems herself from time to time. In general, we try to keep things low key and only drop a riff when it's too hard to pass up. While I'm a long time MST3K and as long time Rifftrax fan as you can be, I do get annoyed when some clown in a theater who thinks he's the next Tom Servo and decides to spew out a riff every 20 seconds.

Not to brag or anything, but when my friends and I riff something, they claim I'm the one who usually comes up with the riff that's impossible to top.  My favorite one that I've come up with was after the scene in "Hero" where , and you see all those arrows stuck in the wall, I just blurted out:

"You think we got him?"

Reminds me of another solid gold Hero riff. From our friend Will (who inroduced my girlfriend's former boyfriend, and so by extension her, and so by further extension me, to MST3k).

I wasn't present unfortunately, but it's a classic.
