Due to the birth of our first child and various other time constraints... I didn't get out to the theater all that much in 2006. I honestly don't think I've seen 10 movies released last year, so probably not a top 10...

I enjoyed:

Inside Man (Denzel playing the same character he always does and the plot meanders a bit... but I still really liked it)
Little Miss Sunshine
A Night at the Museum (goofy kids movie but it worked)
Stranger Than Fiction

Meh:

Cars
Man of the Year (I never cared much for Robin Williams after Mork'n'Mindy when I was 10, but my wife picked it and it wasn't awful)
V for Vendetta
Borat (SBC is very good at what he does, I just never found it as gut-busting as most)

Dissapointment:

Superman Returns
Talledega Nights
Firewall (yes, I saw this in the theater when it released... our in-laws said it was good.)

We have a babysitter for tomorrow and will probably see "Children of Men"... and I've heard nothing but good things about it.

did anyone see "Unknown"?  just rented that and thought it was a quite good indie movie.

It is funny to me that many people who love Lynch's work, don't like Dune.  I hate David Lynch movies, but I love Dune.  What a crazy world.

I've only seen one of Lynch's movies all the way through: Mulholland Drive. It's mysterious, it's captivating, and at one point in the movie, something happens, and the movie switches from odd to downright psycho. After that crucial point, I have absolutely no idea what's happening.

Oh, and there's hot girl on girl action...   ;)

I think my favourite part in Mulholland Drive is just before everything goes tits up.  When the two women go to the theater and

This is absolutely one of my top 10 scenes in all of movies.  I'm so glad that someone agrees with me.  I think that this may even be number 1 on the list and my list varies.  I think I might start a thread asking just that.  I'll have to write out my list though.

There was a great interview with Lynch around the time The Straight Story came out, and he describes certain scenes as an "eye of the duck" scene, where the story takes you that little bit deeper into the movie, but without really having any impact on the overall narrative.  In the Straight Story, it's where the old guy reminisces about Korea (I think) with another old guy, in Blue Velvet, it's where Dean Stockwell sings into the light bulb.  I think the theatre scene is the example for Mulholland Drive.

i gotta say, i LOVE every single frame of The Straight Story.   It's such a quiet and contemplative and beautiful movie.  I was stunned that it's a Lynch movie.

It's also got an absolutely stunning score by Angelo Badalamenti.  I have it on my MP3 player, and apart from Vangelis' score for Blade Runner it's one of the only scores I can listen to without the movie.

The greatest filmmaker alive.

All of his films are masterpieces. There's not a single turkey among them.

Sadly, I didn't see 10 movies released in 2006 that I can honestly call good.
Here are my top 8
1. Casino Royale
2. The Prestige
3. Apocalypto
4. The Illusionist
5. Brick
6. The Departed
7. Night Watch
8. My Super Ex-Girlfriend- maybe not a 'good' movie but it satisfied a lot of daydreams I've had.  :-D

Lost Highway sure is covered in feathers and goes 'gobble, gobble' a lot for a non-turkey.

Lost Highway is my FAVORITE Lynch movie. It's awesome! One of my top five favorite films of all time, also.

KissKissBangBang

Apocalypto

A Scanner Darkly

Déjà vu

The Nativity

Cars

Rocky Balboa

I a little late in the game.......
