Let's see. Thumb Wars are also called Thumb Wrestling, and wrestling happens in a ring! We have Two thumbs, so is it Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers?

Or The Ring?

Or maybe Thumbalina... :^)

Or maybe JProof was just entertaining you?

;)

And who entertains?  Entertainers!  And DaPenguin has no thumbs, so the "wrestling" match became farcical.  And who was an entertainer who was a farcical wrestler?  Andy Kaufman!

They're riffing HEARTBEEPS!

Or more recently, and more of a candidate I might think, Man on the Moon

Lot's of comedians release live DVDs, it doesn't make their show less special, if anything it makes it MORE special to those who go, they can tell their friends, "I saw that live!"

Yes, but how many comedians' shows have 2 hours of copyrighted material that they don't/cannot own the rights to?  How usable would a "live" rifftrax be anyway. Unless they are sitting in a sound proof box you would probably get so much bleed through of movie sounds, audience sounds that it would sound like crap.  The best thing to hope for is that later on down the road they record and release a regular Rifftrax for whatever film they choose for the live event. Much like the way they did This Island Earth on MST3K.

Not necessarily....  If you listen to most unofficial soundboard recordings (and some official ones) you'll hear virtually no audience sound and sometimes none at all.  Whenever someone releases a live album there's usually mics facing the audience or in the audience that's sole purpose is to get audience noise, and in some cases like with George Carlin's "Gold" double disc you can hear different layers of the laugh track and hear them fade in and out.  Also they could use something like these plastic shields behind them that bands sometimes use to stop the drums from bleeding in.

Also as far as the movie sounds go, if they position the speakers well enough that shouldn't be too much of a problem and then just feed them the sound however they normally do when recording.

Plus, there's always that little spoken about practice called overdubbing  ;D

That and the idea of releasing a live trax would suggest to me that they should leave the laughter of the audience in.
FINE

Sharktopus

I'm sure that they'll have a rehearsed script for the Live Riffing, so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to go right into the studio and record it as a RiffTrax for us. In fact, what I would do if I was Mike, is record the RiffTrax first as a sort of dress rehearsal. I'd rather have that than a live mp3, anyway.

SaucyRossy

Personally I would rather have a live mp3 that includes any q/a sessions that might take place before or after and any improv stuff that the guys do during the movie would be great....Live stuff if done right is always enjoyable to listen to....

I agree, and it's not like EVERY track is going to be a live track, it's a special one-off thing.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion. I don't know what the technical side of it would be like.
