Roll The Bones

Long time listener, first time caller here. Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm currently starting production work on a rifftrax/mst3k-styled project entitled The B-Movie Basement. The project will be closer in nature to MST3k's format, with silhouetted audience members riffing what will most likely be public domain movies ("Movies so bad nobody wants them anymore!" is a possible tagline). There are some great bad flicks in the public domain these days that are just begging to be put through the ringer.

Obviously I wouldn't be able to submit material of this format as an iRiff... can anyone suggest where I might host a 90 low res version of a completed episode? I plan to release the high-res version via bittorrent but thought people would prefer to have a choice between the two formats. Or would it be best to just post a short preview on Youtube or something and leave distribution strictly within the realm of peer-to-peer file sharing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And I'll have more info on the project as it nears completion.

Well, as long as you do stick to public domain, you actually can release it through iRiffs.

Yup, Rifftrax offers VOD as an option.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

Yeah, not sure where the confusion came from.. you can definitely sell that with us if you want.

In addition to video on demand through iRiffs, I believe YouTube also has a premium subscriber program which lets you post videos longer than the 10 minute limit.

For some reason I was under the impression that iRiffs was an audio-only endeavor. I'll have to look into that a bit more.

The way I can see that being unclear is on the "Related Questions" box where it does explain

Quote

Q: What is an iRiff?

A: An iRiff is a home-made audio commentary that you can upload to the RiffTrax Store and sell to our thousands of daily visitors. You'll make 50% of the net revenue your iRiff generates, paid in quarterly installments on balances over $25.

Doesn't exactly specify whether it has to be just an audio file or if it can be a commentary on a video file, but I can see where someone might get confused based on that.  Not sure what the best way would be to clear it up though.

RoninFox, you just pegged it with that last post. That's exactly where I got confused on the issue.

I'm thinking what I'll do is try my hand at using a short of some kind, that way I'm not so limited as to where I can distribute it (here, YouTube, etc.). If my format and humor turn out to gain favor with the masses then I'll go on to feature-length movies.

I'm currently in the writing and animation stages of my project, the workflow of which is rather unorthodox but, hey, I'm still learning as I create this thing. my fellow writer/voiceactor on this project bowed out in a most unusual and unwelcome way, so I may end up auditioning for voice talent in the next few weeks.

I am 100% open to any advice, warnings, etc. any of you are willing to bestow upon me. I've wanted to do something like this for a long time... it'd be a shame for me to blow it out of sheer amateurism!
