Hmm... a huge American action movie featuring giant robots? That won't go over well in Japan.

I understand it's common for directors to introduce trailers in Japan, much like Hitchcock used to. It's so formal. "We promise to give you an experience unlike anything you've ever seen."

Pshaw. I have said and will always say it is dumb to judge the movie before it comes out, there are many other worse directors than Michael Bay. George Lucas for one. I am very excited about this movie. I can see it being Mediocre, but not bad. And you know, even if it is not good, we still have the original Transformers movie, which I think all sane people will agree is a masterpiece.

Well, I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm sensing some distinct GINO/Fraudzilla/Goshzilla vibes from this movie. For starters how about the bizarre, skeletal characterizations that look nothing like what we're used to from Transformers? Ultimately though is the condescension and bile Michael Bay has been spewing at longtime fans of the franchise.

Personally, I'd rather see robots that look like they've actually transformed, instead of something that looks like a bunch of cardboard boxes stuck together.



The Gen1 fanatics obviously don't realize how DUMB a Gen1 Optimus (or any other character) would look in a real environment.

That's the argument. Bay said in an interview he tried a traditional TF in a real setting and it looked horrible. A REAL Transformer would only be able to move as much as your TOY transformers. And we all tried putting them in dramatic poses as kids. The best most of 'em can do is raise their arm in victory. :^)

This is a topic near and dear to me (Me and Tyrant met for the first time at a Botcon, of all places. :^)) and I'm in a tentative wait-and-see mode. I wanna see 'em in action first. :^)

While I have no idea what a 'Gen1 fanatic' is, I will agree that just about any cartoon character would look DUMB in a real environment. That's probably why they are cartoons to begin with (and should stay that way).

Seriously though, fanboys need to calm down. "We've only seen a split second, or concept art, or brief glimpses, or snapshots of any given transformer, and we hate them all! Boycot this movie until we get an Optimus that looks like a Megazord!"

I will reserve judgment until, you know, the movie comes out and such, and I've actually seen it. Can't wait.
