Been trying to rip my Transformers DVD set I bought years ago in ebay but it seems a couple of the discs have degraded and are now un-rippable 
Haven't tried playing them yet but I really wanted to have a backup of them in case something like this happened

Well at least Netflix still has them on DVD Just resurrected my account after 2 years to get them

You would be correct to do so.  Though I have to say, Transformers Prime has some good moments and great voice work.  It marks the return of Frank Welker as Megatron.

Listening to my friend complain about reinstalling his anti-virus software. He's used computers in 1992, so he should be able to do this blindfolded.  But, he makes a big deal of it and stresses himself out.

I do. too. I used to love working on my computer.  But, after 5 years or so, I decided "this isn't fun, why does my computer ALWAYS need tinkering?" 15 years later, I still have to tinker, whether I enjoy it or not.  In the context of my friend, stressing because you are sick of ALWAYS having to mess with it, is different than being confused.  I was laughing at him because he was confused.

I get super stressed and anxious while trying to solve problems with my computers, especially if a lot of my own money is involved. I get super satisfied when I solve problems though and in general I love tinkering with technology. When I moonlight solving other peoples computer issues it just feels like work, which is fine too.
