Didn't realize Kevin Smith was in it until his name came up in opening credits.  He's turning into a regular Sydney Pollack what with acting in movies he didn't write or direct.  He'll probably lose a bunch of weight and kill off his acting career.
Movie was a good one of those "turn off your brain and go with it" types.

I saw this last night, and thought it was great.  It's way over the top - just as we like it - but Bruce actually manages to ground the character a little, making him relatable and heroic.  It didn't really feel like a Die Hard movie though, and I can't quite explain why.

I could not agree more.  it was a perfect summer popcorn flick.  the stunts were completely over the top (not stallone-esque in Over The Top), I think you get my gist.  I've always been a fan of Justin Long's as well, ever since Ed.

Looks like we're getting the inevitable "Unrated Cut" we were hoping for:

Live Free or Die Hard is set for DVD release on November 20, 2007 in an unrated version and theatrical version. Fox has announced the Blu-Ray release will only feature the PG-13 "theatrical" cut which runs at 129 minutes, while the "unrated" cut runs 132 minutes.

The 3 minutes extra hopefully means that there's the changes in language and violence for the originally intended R-rated cut.

Knew it. Knew it, knew it, knew it. Hopefully they'll let him finish his yippy kiyay at the end.

And hopefully they fix all the spots where the mouths don't line up with the words.

DVDtalk has two reviews up for the DVD release, and they confirm that the language and violence has been re-installed for the unrated cut:

Quote from: dvdtalk.comThis unrated, two-disc package gives fans what they should've gotten at the theater: more f-bombs and blood, which have been a hallmark of the franchise for nearly two decades. The story hasn't changed one bit, but it's good to know that such an unwarranted marketing decision has been reversed for the DVD release.

Thanks for the good news Smilin' Jack. Now it's official. I still had that 10% of doubt that they might only throw in an f-bomb and a headshot, but now, it can become the Die Hard sequel it always wanted to be.

Just watched the unrated version.  It's everything that I wanted it to be.  One thing that's weird, when he blows up the helicopter with the car, he originally said "I was out of bullets."  They changed the joke to something like "thousands of people are killed by cars every year...that's just four more."  Not only is this new "joke" not funny, it's a mouthful, and doesn't really make any sense.

Anyways, nitpicking aside, this new unrated cut is well worth picking up.  For those Blu-Ray owners out there, I recommend staying away from the Blu-ray version, it's only the theatrical cut, and you'd be better off with the superior unrated version.

(man, I'm really geeking out on this movie.  Well, I'll let this thread die now.)

...

This movie is just too much, man! I don't think it ever let up... Constant action, a lot of fun and an awesome movie. It made me sad that i didn't see it in the theater, up on the big screen.

I mean, it had John McClane vs. A Fighter Jet. That's right... a freakin' military fighter jet! And it's not like he was in another jet, or a helecopter or anything. He just jumps onto the thing while it's in midair and wins! By the way, that was kind of a spoiler... so if you haven't seen the movie yet, don't read the previous couple sentences.

Anyway, it's a really fun movie. Good times. Perfect for the holiday weekend.

Yeah I almost went to see it twice, despite the PG-13 edits. I just got the DVD last night too, looking forward to watching it later.

It wasn't bad but it wasn't much better than Die Hard 3 imo......and i know this is a tired argument but if your gonna make a Die Hard movie don't make it unless John can say f#ck, Other wise what is the point ?
