I wonder how this will compete with Blame Society's riff of the same movie.

Yeah, it's one of those details that sneaks by you until you reach a certain level of obsession about the movie. It all happens during the climactic epic awesome space battle, and you're somewhat distracted when Porkin's name is mentioned. I didn't notice Porkins until I stumbled on a fansite for the guy a few years back. :^)

Yeah, as a kid I never mentioned Porkins' name, and I watched that movie a hell of a lot.  It wasn't until someone gave me the radio drama script that I noticed the name and thought "that can't be right, that has to be different than the movie" then I watched the movie again and "I'll be damned."

Yea,  I never mentioned Porkins name either when I was a kid...

That's primarily because my grandmother couldn't find me an X-Wing for Christmas... she did the best she could... and I got stuck growing up with a Y-Wing. Imagine the fucking non-stop carnival of joy that was... all my friends running around being Luke and Luke and Luke Jr and sometimes Wedge and all I could do was play the "Stay on target" guy... "Lost Tyree... lost Dutch.... they came from... behind....".  I have no idea how this all ties back to Porkins.... but screw him!

Just watched the Blame Society version... so after seeing both over the last few days... I'd have to say that the Blame Society version wins for me in a close race.

I found the official Rifftrax more consistent, with a good level of funny... but it rarely climbed the ladder into "LOL" status. The Blame Society version had more lines that fell flat for me, but also serverd up more big belly laughs. For example, nothing in the offiicial riff struck me as hilarious as the Greedo/Han scene in the Blame Society version. Similar to when he guested with Mike and Kevin, Chad Vader doesn't seem to get a ton of lines in the Blame Society version... but he delivers when called upon.

Also, as others said earlier in this thread (I believe it was bratpop), after watching the BS version the official riff does come across as a little more geriatric. I guess this is going to be personal preference, but the Blame Society guys seem to riff things as fans of the movies. The official riffers almost seem to go out of their way to riff the SW universe from the outside looking in. This isn't really a knock on Mike and the gang, I would guess they are of an age that let them avoid getting sucked into the SW phenomenon when it was fresh. Being somebody who grew up with the original trilogy as a grade school kid, the general vibe worked for me more in the BS version.

I'd probably rate them both in the 4 outta 5 range, but the BS version wins as I think it will be the one I'll revisit more often.

I haven't heard the Blame Society version yet, but I'll be picking it up soon to compare it to the "official" riff.

As far as the official riff, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I thought that the pace was pretty much spot on. I'm probably in the minority, but I like when the source movies are given a little bit of room to breath. I think the whole riff concept works best when it compliments the source movie. Some riffs have bordered on annoying when the movie itself can't seem to get a word in edgewise. I'd rather have a lower amount of really solid jokes as opposed to the riffers throwing everything against the wall hoping that most of it sticks. I thought they balanced things nicely with A New Hope. There were maybe a few opportunities left behind, but generally they took what they movie gave them and served up a lot of good lines. The overall funny factor was high, maybe not a ton of laugh out loud zingers, but things were pretty consistent.
Agreed entirely. The best riffing humor is constructed so that you can enjoy both the movie and the jokes at the same time. Heck it's probably why they were called "riffs" in the first place. It accompanies the main part but gives edges.

RVR II

Both were GR8

Chad Vader made it worth while while the RT guys added their own brand to it as well, so I gave it a tie :-\

The Star Wars mockery is kind of hollow coming from guys who used to play with puppets and pretend they were in outer space.

Please, they are not the "official riffers". They're the riffers from Rifftrax.

Sorry. Pet peeve.

Maybe I am not correctly interpreting the meaning of your reply, but I didn't mean to indirectly attack the legitimacy of your own riffing work. But see... I'm on the "official rifftrax forum", it's right there at the top of the screen.... looking right at it now. I'm talking about their official product on their official forum, therefore they will be the official riffers. If I ever talk about your work on your forum, I'll gladly bestow the title to you and there will be rejoicing throughout the land.

Invader_quirk

It's not my work personally, but riffing in general. If you notice, this isn't the "official riffing forum", it's the "official rifftrax" forum. The Rifftrax version is the "official rifftrax version", but not the "official riff", since they didn't invent riffing. Official-ness isn't subjective. It's either the official one or it isn't, and in this case there is no official riff (and there never is). That's all I'm saying.

bratpop

Officially, Mike invented the word riffing, so he's the only one who can or can't call himself "the official riffer."
