Whatever he intended, what he succeeded in making is an anti-God movie.

Does he feel that way?  You don't hear about that interpretation of god often (beside the general 'questions are bad' thing) probably because it makes him seem like a douche I guess.

Grug are you saying Unbreakable is anti-comics?  I seriously think Unbreakable is one of the top 10 'hero' movies ever.

Who is the one character in the movie who reads comics?

The delusional nut-job. The only other person even hinted at is a child. (when  the guy tries to buy the art for his son)

The statistic that kicks the movie off is put up like it's a THREAT.

I believe M Night probably thought he was making a pro-comics movie, but he failed.

Umm.... the book of Job is there as a reminder that bad things happen to good people in this life, but you shouldn't lose faith because of it. There's another one after this that isn't messed up by sin. That's the point.

Edward J Grug III

Thank you, I understand the moral of Job, but when I say it's not po-God, I mean, it's a story about "him" being a bit of a dick.

I'll freely admit to knowing very little about the bible but isn't the whole old testament like that?  Killing the first born, drowning everyone, soddom and gommorah, turning people into salt, asking people to kill their kinds, etc, etc

Hey, I didn't say any of the rest of the bible convinced me he was a nice guy. (well, the old testament anyway)

Mind you, the last time I saw Unbreakable was also my first time, on the big screen. But if I remember correctly doesn't the film begin with an essay on the validity of comic books as an essential form of myth-telling? That's an outright declaration that the film wants the viewer to take superhero stories legitimately.

I don't know Night personally. And I don't like his movies. Nor do I think I admire him personally. But from everything I've heard, seen or read about him he doesn't seem to have a strict religion. According to that terrible biography (The Man Who Heard Voices) he chose the name Night because he was studying American Indian mysticism. And while making 'The Sixth Sense' he had his wife bless the camera in a Hindu ritual. And 'Lady in the Water' is as pagan as 'Signs' is Christian so I'm not going to say he himself is a Christian. But my thesis is that somehow he ends up making Christian morality films. And it's creepier than any of his shock scenes.

These things can happen by accident Sean Cunningham and most of the people who made the earliest slashers say they didn't notice the whole, sex/drugs/drinking = death thing until it was pointed out to them.  Meh, I like his movies and although I'd admit I think The Happening is by far the weakest I enjoyed aspects of it.

To go back to my earlier point, I can't decide if a puritan riff of a normal movie would be funnier than one of a religious movie.
