Warner Brothers is releasing (potentially) up to 5,000 new movies not on DVD.  They're looking to get just about every title out, but logistics proves they'll just have to do the best they can for now.  They'll come in batches, and the first batch is already available.  Here's the full story.

Heheh... "batch."

More movies being available is a good thing.  I hope they eventually turn it into some sort of digital download store.

That is cool news.

I wish Disney would do something like that with their classic shorts and some of their films that are not PC.

Also great to hear we will be EFC soon.

I thought Disney were doing a pretty great job of putting their classic shorts out there with the Treasures series? Not so much the non-PC stuff, although there was a collection of Disney during wartime stuff.

Also, the link to the story doesn't seem to link to a story.

The wartime stuff must be tricky to put out.  I wonder if they release the ones featuring the Japanese, considering how blatantly racist it is.

I'm not sure I would call it racist per say remember those tunes were made during a time of war and they were trying to make fun of the people who had sneak attacked us.

Cartoons have always made the people they  attack look stupid or evil.

While there may have been some racism I think it's more likely the product of the fact that we were at war at the time.

also I like the treasures disc too but it seemed like each set was only out for about a week or two and they never did get around to releasing all those tunes.

Even if Disney would just set up a way for use to watch all the classic tunes on Youtube that would better then what is happening now,it must have been at least two years since any classic Disney cartoons were out on DVD and even longer since they were on tV.

In context, they're explainable, but I still find them pretty uncomfortable viewing nowadays.

Some of the early Treasures dvds are out of print and muy expensive though.  Plus, some of them (Goofy and some of the Mickeys) don't have play all features, which is a big WTF.

There's also a fair amount of overlap between different releases, which I'm not super happy about.  The "Treasures" are a really mixed bag, and some kind of download or burn-to-order service on those would be fantastic. I can tell you I'd get like zero black and white ones.

Knowing Disney they'll go back into print. Also, if you're prepared to order from another country, a lot of the collections have only JUST been released. (ie,  The first two volumes of Mickey in colour, the first chronological Donald and the first Silly Symphony sets were all released here only weeks ago, and they are cheaper here than they ever were in the US. Shame I had ordered most of them from Amazon. Hopefully they'll continue, and also hopefully the play all feature will be added. :P)

There are two cheap way you can get a region free disc player.

One you can download DVDregionkiller for free and your computer will play them.

Two get any Philips DvD player and look up the code on the internet and hack it.

Those have both worked great for me.

I do mean at some point to get a region-free player, so maybe I'll look into that. I want The Comic Strip Presents on DVD, dammit.

A lot of DVD players already have the multi-regional functionality built in.  If you know the make and model number, looking it up on the 'net might give a simple remote control code to make it region-free.

Tripe
