Just in time for Halloween, what are some of either:
B) You're favourite horror movie moments
A) The scariest moments in film?

Relaxing Dragon

For scariest... no idea. They tend to change a lot, and some things that I though were scary as hell no longer frighten me (and on occasion, vice versa).

For favorite, though, I've got a couple. In brief:

The blood testing scene in The Thing

Jack asks Wendy for the bat in The Shining

When the Hero comes in (and soon leaves :P) in Feast

The bagboy scene in The Mist

The hammer-to-the-head scene in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The part in Se7en where

The laser hallway in Resident Evil.

The CPR scene in The Thing

And finally, in The Thing (why yes, it is my favorite horror movie) when

Oodles more, but I can't think of any specific ones right now.

This scared the fucking shit out of me.

And I was 17 when I first saw that.  :speechless:

That clown is pure fucking evil.
Killing me won't bring back your Goddamned honey!

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

In the fourth one, with the thing about the solinoids...."Yeah, I got one from that crackhead over there."

Oh you didn't mean, Scary Movie moments.....sorry.

MartyS (Gromit)

Watching Aliens opening weekend in a packed theater, several moments in that one....

Only other one I can think of is in Jurassic Park, when they are crawling in the ceiling and the raptor jumps up, felt like the thing was going to come through the screen at you....

Later,
Marty

Alien--All of it.
The Thing--The blood test scene and the spider head scene.
The Descent--When the characters first encounter the crawlers.

Raven

My dad used to run the local theater and he said his favorite part to watch in any movie they ever showed was the hand coming out of the grave at the end of Carrie.  The whole theater jumped every time.

For me-  The climax of Rear Window is still scary even though it's 50 years old.

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

I'm going to win the "Wimp Award" for this thread.

Seriously, the end of the original version of The Fly....."Help me!  Help me!".

Saw it the first time as a kid and now I still can't watch it.   :speechless:

I think that scene wins hands down for scary movie moment. I don't know too many 80s kids (including myself) that did not develop Caulrophobia because of it. To this day, anything with a clown on it is banned outright from my house.  :speechless:

Chaos

I don't usually get very scared watching movies (except for when I was a kid and watching something that I really shouldn't have been), so most of these are favourites rather than best scares.

The aforementioned moments from The Thing (blood test, spider head, and the scene with the lightning lighting was awesome).

The scene from the original Saw when he cuts his own foot off - he's such a good actor, you can really feel the desperation and determination. It's a great creepy / gross moment (not really scary I guess, but a fantastic little titbit of a scene).

The scene from The Fly when Goldbloom breaks the arm of the guy he's arm wrestling. That shot creeped me the fuck out when I saw it for the first time (I was about 12).

The scene from Nightmare on Elm Street where the guy gets sucked into the waterbed and explodes blood everywhere. Hilariously awesome, taking a "scare" moment to the absolute extreme of ridiculousness.

I'll probably think of a lot more later, but right now I'm drawing a bit of a blank.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this but the end of Roman Polanksi's "The Tenant" is really creepy, bhich is funny because it's really a previous scene, shown again with a new point of view.

Also the part were the woman is almost crushed by rocks in "the Descent" (amazing how the monsters don't show up (in a threatening sense) until halfway through the movie and it doesn't matter.

Not a movie but in the first level of the video game Resident Evil 4 I was creeped out... but then you became way to super-soldier-y.  That's why Silent Hill games always had the edge on scares: the characters you play were ordinary people.

The original Hong Kong version of The Eye is a good little horror movie, and it's best scene (completely screwed up in the remake) is where the girl is in the elevator with a ghost.  You just can't see his face as he has his back to the camera and the girl, but you know it's something hideous.  She desperately starts pressing buttons to get out, and then the ghost turns round and starts moving forward.  It's a great little scene.

B) I don't have any particular favorite horror movie moments which are to be taken seriously, but I know for fact that Hellraiser, still to this day, as a whole creeps the living shit of me.

A) The moment in Aliens when the xenomorphs are perpetuating the Marines' make-shift compound via means of the ceiling. That scene scared the living bejeezus out-of-me when I first saw it.

Chaos

I know I'll probably get flak for it, but I don't really care. The US remake of The Ring had one perfect moment in it which the original didn't capture. Not, as you might suspect, the actual ending of the film when the girl comes out of the TV (creepy, but also expected), but rather the moment when the mother tells the boy what happened in the well, and he looks at her with terror in his eyes and says, "You HELPED her?"

Even though I knew what was going to happen (I have a nasty tendency to figure out "twist" endings really easily and really early - ask my wife about the time she made me watch The Others some time), the delivery was so perfect, it made a really excellent "holy shit" creepy moment.
