But like I said, Dirty Dancing was a very, very outside chance of having the guys on it, given the way the dollars have fallen.

Except for the fact that Mike said it was on the way, and even if he didn't say outright that he was going to riff on it, it was implied.   And it was probably originally planned that way until the two guest riffers spoke up.  This was one of the few titles that we knew about before the initial announcement and I think everyone has the right to voice their opinions and not be called tacky.   You've done more posting in this thread trying to pick a fight than anyone who said they were against it.  Like I said, I'll be getting it anyway but I can understand being a little upset if I bought a copy of Dirty Dancing based on Courtney's interview and having this be the way it turned out.

I don't know when Courtney's interview was, so i don't know what the time-frame exactly is, but the bottom line is, people were not going to buy it as steadily if Mike or Mike and the gang did it instead of a blockbuster, so they didn't do it.

We all spoke with our wallets.

Anyone who hasn't bought Crossroads or Glitter or any 80s film made it so that Dirty Dancing was very unlikely to be released. Mike didn't PROMISE it, no more than when they mentioned Blue Crush way back in the early days, and everyone assumed it was coming next (I think some folks may have even ordered the DVD)

Rifftrax is a small company, constantly evolving depending on the reactions of their customers.

Less people bought chick flicks, less people buy 80s movies, the RT crew changed their scopes.

I think you've actually talked me out of getting this one.  I don't want Mike to pass Red Daun up for somebody else to do.  So I don't think I'll be talking with my wallet as a "yay" vote for this one.  Maybe I'll get it at a later date, but I've really lost interest in this now.

Yeah, not buying this will convince Mike to release R-e-d D-a-w-n.

Oh, I think I hear him going into the recording booth now!

Less snarky reply:

Older movies being even LESS profitable won't lead to more of them being recorded. It will just make the RTPers choose the more current movies too.

Though, I know you know that and are just being passive aggressive.

Actually, I'm being serious.  I've purchased all the Presents titles so far.  (Well I haven't bought anything since Memento, but I will soon)  I think that House of Wax and Dark Water are both movies that Mike never would have picked, but I believe he would have done Dirty Dancing eventually.   Now I'm sure he never will.  I don't want to encourage him to pass the buck on other 80s movies.  I'm more than willing to wait for the Red  Dawn riff and if it's not financially viable for Rifftrax to have Mike do it then I guess I'd rather keep on waiting.  Hopefully as time passes Rifftrax will become popular enough to support more of the less popular titles and still be able to turn a profit.

Edit- Let me amend this with a question to the powers that be.  Did Mike have anything to do with the writing for this one?

Buy what you want to buy.

If you think not buying it will lead to Red D-A-W-N being released, I think you are fooling yourself. The two things are so unrelated.

I do think that will be one that either Mike or Bill or Kevin or some combination of those guys will record, in the same way Troll 2 was done eventually,

Dirty Dancing was never demanded in the same way, and to be honest, I think Mike would be pretty surprised to hear that anyone thought it was a given that he was doing it.

I didn't think it was a given until he said he watched it with Bridgett and it was going to be a rifftrax.   The only titles I've heard about before the official announcement were Spider-man 3 from Lileks' site, Mike mentioning Grey's Anatomy and the Batman & Robin riff.  All of those actually happened.  Jingle All the Way was attempted and we were told why they couldn't get it to work (only "that was a bad joke" riffs).  Same thing with Coyote Ugly (having too many versions/cuts of the film).  I never heard the stuff about Blue Crush being a riff until you brought it up aside from Conor cracking jokes, so I guess that one predates me.

I wasn't saying it wouldn't be successful, just not as sucessful as a Mike, Bill and Kevin Riff on 10, 000 BC and that I wonder if it's a factor at all to the type of people who would already buy it?

I have bought every RT (and RTP) so far, and I know I'm not the only person.

Some of us also prefer the older (and particularly 80s) movies.

On the flip side, some people only buy the newest movies, or movies they already have in their collection.

Some people only buy the films with at least two of the three guys on them (there are probably some who only buy all three?)

So, the question is, will it be more or less as successful for these guys to riff an 80s movie and it would be for them to riff AvPR?

And therefore, since Mike and the gang are not likely to riff the film, (due to my earlier mentioned reasons) would this be not be the perfect kind of movie for Cole and Janet to Riff?

wow, great job, but you get points off for not mentioning Jumper or Dragon Wars

Not to make a big deal out of this but can't we all just state our opinions on here without getting on each other's cases about it?

I really don't see why every reaction to a new Rifftrax has to be all smiles and cheers.  The moment someone states they they're not thrilled with an upcoming Rifftrax the fanboys have to get on their cases about it.  Really, what is your problem?

At the end of the day not everybody's going to like everything that a particular entertainer does.  Does that make their opinions wrong?  No.  Does that make their opinons tacky?  No, not if they're presented in the way they have been in this thread.  I think a tacky response would be something more like "These peepz r going 2 suck ballz!!! ROFL!!!!111!!!"  No one has even come close to sounding like that in here.

After all, how would you like it if you said "This new Rifftrax is going to be great!" and I responded with  "Really?  It's probably going to be bad.  Why don't you not buy it?  You really shouldn't look forward to this."   No, you wouldn't like it.  That's why you have not seen anything like that from the people in here who are expressing their disappointment over this.  Yet, you're doing that very thing to those of us who are disappointed by this.  Can't you just let us have our opinions and move on?  Is it really that hard?

Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

I'll just say this. If Mike was riffing this cheesy 80's movie then it would be an instant buy for me but being that it is not Mike I'd say there is a 90% chance I will not purchase it.

On a more serious note:

Guys? There's a regular edition of this, an Ultimate Edition and a 20th Anniversary Edition. Which one is the cut used?

My chances of buying the trax will certainly increase if I knew which version of the disc was used...

Conor

I don't believe there are any different cuts of the movie.  All of these discs should be the exact same thing.

Netflix sent us the "ultimate" edition.

MontyServo

I am beginning to see why this is such a disappointing selection of movie for some people.  Patrick Swayze is the closest thing to a Rifftrax icon that we have.  Who are these strange new people that dare to make fun of him?  Mike is the only guy that should be riffing Swayze films.  I totally get that point of view.  It is only natural for some to feel protective of Swayze and his movies.   Now that I see it that way, I am totally bummed that they picked Dirty Dancing.  It seems like it would have been a great choice for Mike and the Mrs.  I doubt they will bother with it now.

And as far as holding back our disappointment, you know, in case the new guys are reading this thread.  They are actors.  I'm sure they are used to rejection.   ;)

P.S.  And yes, I'll most likely still be buying the track.
