Doctor Who?

I don't know maybe I should have been born in the 50s,because that kind of stuff makes me feel ill.

There is a reason why most of the tv shows I watch are old.

Doctor Who?

Fun fact: the term was first coined in the late 50s by the same corroner who did the investigation on Marylin Monroe.

Obscurity points to anyone who knows which minor celebrity was the first to kark it that way.

It was a composer, yes?

Nope, an actor. though looking him up takes the death to the 60s, so the Doctor is still fine resiing there :)

Aww crap he's been in a movie with the Grinch twice then, no wonder the balance of his mind was unsettled.

I'm sorry.  I stopped trying to watch movies with her in them.  I don't get it (except that she'll drop trou on a moment's notice).

Where it was proven without a doubt that that's what was going on?  Because you know they're still arguing about whether Michael Hutchence died that way or simply hung himself....and that was in 1997.

And I still think that that's how Katherine Hepburn's brother died....

Well yes and originally there was the story that he was covered in bad movie review text but the report on his death was where we get the term from. :)

From Wiki:

QuoteThe composer* Frantisek Kotzwara died from erotic asphyxiation in 1791, probably the first recorded case.

Sada Abe killed her lover, Kichizo Ishida, through erotic asphyxiation in 1936, proceeding to cut off his testicles and carry them in her handbag for a number of days. The case caused a sensation in 1930s Japan and has remained one of the most famous Japanese murder cases of all time.

Stage and screen actor Albert Dekker was found in 1968 with his body graffitized and a noose around his neck in his bathroom.

The artist Vaughn Bodé died from this cause in 1975.

Progressive rock musician Kevin Gilbert died from this in 1996, as did drummer Robin Hanssen.

The death in 1994 of Stephen Milligan, the British Conservative MP for Eastleigh, was a case of autoerotic asphyxiation combined with self-bondage

Michael Hutchence, lead singer of INXS is rumored to have died from auto-erotic asphyxiation in 1997, although suicide was the official cause of death.

A more recent case is the death in 2004 of the extreme right-wing National Front party member Kristian Etchells.

On March 28, 2007, the New York Times had a front-page story on a teenager who had suffered a heart attack and spent three days in a coma after hanging himself for a "rush" in what appeared to be an instance of a choking game.

The day is mine.

I'd imagine you're speaking of Dekker?  I know not of him.  I just remember learing about the composer kicking it that way in college music theory.

Yeah, Clyde Bruckman's is actually a marvelous ep.  Plus, Peter Boyle is outstanding as usual.

No, that's a retroactive descriptive (like saying Mozart had Tourett's or Newton Asperger's) I'm talking about the case from which the term came. And Dekker would be the one. :)

BTW, The X Files: I Want to Heave isn't opening somewhere in the world today, is it?

Cuz, this strikes me as a lot less odious than being charged with battery for hitting your Mom.....but possibly the same gambit to get one's name in the newspaper.

Also heard that there's an alternate edit of the X Files movie where the villain is a female gender reassignment patient....

It's called The X Files - I Want to Be Steve

It co-stars Ann Coulter.
